Povray Planets aims to provide a high resolution texture for every planet in each galaxy - generated/rendered based on seed values in the spirit of Elite/Oolite.
This OXP is split such that the bulk of the scripting is provided by the base OXP , with the textures provided separately via Povray_Planets_GalaxyX_Textures. The aim of this is to allow modifications to behaviour and bugfixes to be released without the burden of another large download.
The Povray Planets base OXP is no longer recommended , indeed it is a terrible compatibility hack which needs a lot of work. The galaxy textures work by themselves , provided no other OXP attempts to override main planet textures using javascript.

Quoting myself here - slightly rude. Several kind souls have volunteered CPU to complete some more galaxies. Could any other of the 20 lucky downloaders of galaxy 4 provide feedback ?
Thank you. Those textures are great inspiration.. it's on my list to build some more variety into the different planet types. Icy/Arctic planets are missing - as are Fiery or volcanic ones. About 45% of each galaxy is 'Continental' which sort of covers Tropical , though that particular one you have there is very nice. Was that hand painted?
That one was produced by merging a couple of textures using different layer blending options; it was quite a while ago so I can't remember the exact details.
Right, time to download galaxy two...
Download Fighter HUD, Stingray and System Redux from the EliteWiki
Do you have these available at some higher resolutions - they'd make a beautiful screen saver.
Of course - these screenshots are just cropped from the ingame experience .. most of them are probably 1450x900 with the HUD switched off. I'll upload some soon, however - I encourage you to download , explore and play galactic photographer yourself
