Oolite felines...
I've been thinking recently, a dangerous pastime. And I'm wondering, are Oolite felines simply a sentient version of Felis Silvestris Catus, or are they larger, like leopard-, bobcat- or even tiger-sized? Of course, when a planet (like Xeesle in G1) specifies "Large Felines", this is probably a reference to tiger-size or bigger. But what about "normal" cats (like the Fierce Harmless Furry Felines from Cesousla)? I've even seen some "Small Felines", so would this be a reference to Felis-size, or would it be hamster-size?
Personally, I think of FF0000-colored Felis-sized cats when I read "Red Furry Felines" in Oolite, but this is just my personal opinion. What's the consensus here?

I chose the third option but there could be even larger species of felines in the Ooniverse. As for color, I doubt they would be pure red as you suggest.

Re: Oolite felines...
Personally I imagine that most of the species in Oolite are built roughly around the human average in size and build, bipedal, with functioning, tool-using hands. There will be some that are smaller than average, and some a bit bigger and beefier. Probably this is because what I've been trained to imagine from films and TV, but partly it allows us all to interact on more or less the same scale, use the same ships, stations and equipment etc. "Large felines" might be robustly built, with an average height of (say) 6'5" to 7' (although maybe some could be taller), broad shoulders, heavily muscled and so on; "small felines" could be much more gracile, more around the 5' to 5'6" mark.

In Lazarus - the hero is hugged by a bipedal tiger sized feline... (so you have my opinion cast in stone right there)

Now, those look like creatures from Oolite. Didn't somebody say in Kaxgar, "If there’s ever an inter-species war, we’d want the cats on our side." Yeah, I'd want those cats on our side, not fluffy kittens.Queex wrote:Take your pick:

If that top cat looked more Siamese-like, then I'd love to be him... with the second cat as a wingman flying one of those new Koneko Mambas I have in progress.Queex wrote:Take your pick
I can't really see "red" or "blue" any other way than FF0000 or 0000FF, respectively. But as for "yellow", the color of Terra's "yellow" cats are the first to spring into my mind.CaptSolo wrote:As for color, I doubt they would be pure red as you suggest.
I changed the poll to add humanoid size.

Re: Oolite felines...
Much like Disembodied I imagine all spacefaring species to be more or less human-sized (cf. the Thargoids, seven feet tall insects). If they can all pilot the same ship, they must be more or less of the same size. Also, I'm imagining all of them as standing upright.
As far as the above options are concerned, that brings me somewhere between the Leopard and the Tiger, I guess.
I have to say, though, that I'm not really picturing the other species that much. I would have to admit that a six feet tall frog (or lobster) does seem odd to me. Then again, it's all down to this.

I mostly find this sort of thing rather exasperating.

As a rule, I never let Trumble-sellers on my ship. I don't need a furry travel companion, I need my sanity intact.Ahruman wrote:You never really got to know Captain Hesperus, did you?RyanHoots wrote:Yeah, I'd want those cats on our side, not fluffy kittens.

He's the "Grand High Clock-Tower Poobah" and a fierce warrior (as long as the shot is clear, the cover is great and the enemy, completely unaware), though missing/missed at the moment.

You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.
