Oops. I sold the cargo I was meant to deliver.

In galaxy 5, I took a Galactic Navy mission to Xeaten. It was a long trip and I picked up a passenger contract and an Alloys delivery contract on the way.

Unfortunately, I saw some good offers for Alloys and sold them, thinking I must have picked them up as ship parts or from mining.

On docking at Xeaten (having personally taken out much of the Thargoid invasion force and still got no medal) I got told off for not having the Alloys I was supposed to deliver.

Thankfully, I have 26 hours left and I am only 2 hours jump away from an Anarchy, so with some luck I can buy a replacement stock to deliver.

Have you ever done that? Sold a cargo you were supposed to deliver?

Nope, I haven't. I've done my share of contracts, but Taylor Miller has a 20 ton cargo hold, so I haven't done any for a while.

As for the poll, I chose, "If I want cargo, I blow up a Boa. And its escorts. And the GalCops." Of course, I rarely want cargo. 8) But when I do, it's more like, "If I want cargo, I blow up a Boa. And its escorts. But GalCop will never know, 'cause I'm still rated clean."

nope - I am mostly always short of platinum, gold and such when I get close to point of delivery, but then I start travelling the vicinity. And if they have no new contracts to offer, it is up to the offenders to provide my needs.
The last savegame I have from my first game is also like that - under 1 LY from the target system, ~200 kg short, but still 6 days to go. I could even deliver two remaining passengers while looking for precious metals. 8)
(I then gave up, with the very low framerates here, it was no more fun to get into all them big fights.)

But I missed a passenger contract across the whole sectoor once, by about 4 hours, I think. What an ungrateful twat!

I used to have a spotless reputation, but suddenly started to mysteriously miss long haul contracts - while still very far away... Eventually I got wise to the Save Anywhere bug that ate up time, but by then I was only doing opportunistic short hauls.

I'm obviously not one of them.

I flogged some stuff by accident once. Baught it back just in time and lost out on the deal. Lesson learned: You may have it, but it might not be yours to sell.

Last option only. I never buy cargo, in and out of contracts. I only ever sell, up to a hundred tunnes per docking.

Just before I switched to a Caduceus, I got a couple of tonnes of gold and platinum, with about 10 kg of gems in contracts on the cheap. Took more then 20 jumps to sell it. I made a bigger profit by not full-filling the contracts and anyway, I was ready for a career switch. 8)

YUP, I sold heaps of stuff that way.
Hi Cmdr. SandJ

I very often sell contract cargo at a profit and replace it cheaper.

Get good maps and Plan ahead. I hear ClymAngus has some great maps.

Remember You have to buy the contract stuff and the profit is on delivery, so as soon as you sign for it.
Well it's yours.

You want the profit, deliver it, You want to get a good reputation for getting stuff there, deliver it.

Good reputation for delivering means better contracts. Higher profits.

The employer doesn't care how you done it, just that it's done.

Wee tip, short jumps may be faster.
LOOK OUT!!!

Short jumps also give more chances to replenish lost cargo.

All this means we really need a way to 'tag' cargo...
After all it's specific items ("Laveian Tree Grubs", for instance) that want transporting, not generic 'Food', so no sneaky selling the goods and replacing them with inferior local substitutes!
The glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
