Are you quite sure about that?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

As if Deadly Gin and Eviljuice wasn't enough, now comes fermented lasers!

Then there's the drink made from fermented cascade warheads, or as one hotshot bomber jock calls it, "Boom Boom".

Much ado about weapons of mass intoxication...

Ooooh... Multiple Forward Lasers? For real?

I'm even salivating at this newscast - I just hope it's not just a hoax...
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

Yes.
The OED States that "Ferment" means I quote "agitation and excitement among a group of people, typically concerning major change and leading to trouble or violence"
Ferment works well in this case.

Then I'd say ferment is the perfect word to use to describe the release of a new superweapon...

I'd have to agree ... while it is possible to be "in a foment", generally it's used as a verb, e.g. "to foment unrest". In a situation like that, I'd use "foment" rather than saying "to ferment unrest", which sounds weird – probably because "ferment", when used as a verb, is more commonly associated with yeasts, etc. But it's perfectly OK to describe excited people as being "in a ferment", and the two words are generally regarded, when talking about such figurative unrest and excitement, as interchangeable.

I second that. Fermentation is what you do with grains and grapes. Fomenting is what you do with restless citizens.

Talking about people fermenting gives me nasty thoughts of soylent green and icky foot diseases...

But, cool macguffin :)

Given the Screenshot thread is now approaching 200 pages in length and also given we're approaching 2012, would it perhaps make sense to break the thread down into more manageable chunks?

So we could have Screenshots_2008 (locked), Screenshots_2009(locked), Screenshots_2010(locked), Screenshots_2011(locked) and now Screenshots_2012

I can't see many people starting at page 1 of a 4+ year, 200 page thread and working their way through it...

Just a thought.

You underestimate the sad, empty lives of netizens. I have been through them all.

I've also been through all the decades of Dilberts, about a decade of Astronomy Picture of the Day, over a decade of UserFriendly, read Lolcats from the start and the High Energy Astrophysics Picture of the Week.

I have gone from the start on quite a few other web sites with hundreds - or even thousands - of pages, and in so doing, come across the comments of many others doing the same.

It is actually a good way to pass the time when you are too poorly to do anything more strenuous than click and stare.

But I cannot believe anybody will ever read threads called "whatever (2008 Archive)", "whatever (2009 archive)" etc.

Also:
- a phpBB forum's performance will not degrade until a thread is far, far longer than this one;
- it is easier to search one thread than many;
- splitting it creates an admin chore;
- splitting it creates clutter in the forum;
- the concept of 'volumes' is a requirement for physical media which is heavy to hold.
