Scale of the Universe

Post by DaddyHoggy »

Beautiful site - wouldn't work as the scale of the Ooniverse of course (although that would be amusing...)

It's the Total Perspective Vortex Lite.
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

I think the BBC have settled on the syllables: YOU-RAN-US

lest children snicker everywhere at the pronunciation when I was a kid of YOUR-ANUS.

Uranus is named after the ancient greek god. Thus the correct pronunciation is YOUR-IN-NUS with the emphasis on the first syllable.

I'm a native Portuguese (a Romance language) speaker, so I have no difficulty whatsoever with the vowels in Uranus... For me, it's simply U-ra-nus - as it was meant to be 8) .

A nearer (and less controversial) approximation for you guys might be a more closed "oo".
