Captured escape pod

Post by LouisdeFuines »

Hi there!

When I capture an escape pod, can I sell the captured person as a slave or will that person be regarded as free, when I dock at the station?

Thx for answering

Sometimes you get to keep them as slaves, but at other times you get a payment on arrival.

Maybe you could start a Kickstarter Campaign to found your £4500 pledge. 8)

When you scoop a pod it is held in your manifest as a slave. But on docking at any station you will get a docking report screen where you will get either a reward from the insurance or bounty for the reprehension of a criminal. More often than not this will far exceed the price of slaves at the station.

Beware not to jettison an escape pod or it'll become a common cargo container of slaves, without any bounty/prize/reward/extra money attached.
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

I am not too sure of that Cmdr. Maegil. I regularly jettison pods that really annoy me at the sun and watch them burn

Maybe it used to be like that but was changed since...IIRC, I once tried to jettison some cheap cargo to pick up the latest space flotsam, and there was a couple of pods I had picked up on the way... I jettisoned them and scooped them back, but when I got to the station there were no rewards.

Just re-read your comment. On the rare occurrence you scoop a slave trader and the docking report states that you sold them as a slave. In every case a pod that is scooped is either a criminal (you get a bounty) or it is a poor victim (you get a reward).

Sometimes you don't get the 'reward' that you should though:

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Yes, but you've got to factor in the warm glow of satisfaction at having Done the Right Thing. You can't put a price on upstanding citizenship!

(Except here you can, and your upstanding citizenship cost you 465.9 ₢ ...)

I released the slave by accident by pressing "D", they where again in the excape pod

As long as you are in flight, Oolite remembers all pods the cargo/slaves was in when you scooped them. On dumping they stay in their original pods. Only when you dock at a station, the pods are rearranged and most often replaced by the more common pods. This rearranging of cargo for you is a service from your local station to tidy up your cargo hold

Well, then it'd seem I was wrong... It was a long time ago, and ever since I got this impression, I've been careful not to jettison them.
