A Sub forum @ Spacesimcentral.com?

Post by pagroove »

A while ago I asked the moderators of the forum @ Spacesimcentral.com if there could be an Oolite section in the
Free Indie and Open Source Game projects section of the Forum.

http://www.spacesimcentral.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=46

It was no problem but there was one condition. The condition was that this sub forum must be updated frequently. This is understandable as some developers came there in the past and then put a few messages on the forum and left.

I don't have the time to post there something on a daily bases but it is a nice chance to promote Oolite besides the other great project Pioneer. (love both games). So is someone willing to maintain an Oolite sub forum there? I promise to check now and then and post a message also. It really is a lovely forum to promote Oolite.

To get the sub forum posted you have to send a message to the forum

I have previously posted two messages in April 2010 about Oolite on that forum, but its not a site I use very often.

Oolite's new website (new thread)

You are right but I thought it would be a good place for a more permanent promotion of Oolite.

I appreciate the thought and I myself visit Spacesimcentral quite often, but I can't see why we need a subforum somewhere else, when we have a complete full forum here, which is known by everyone playing Oolite and is our reference discussion board. Spreading across various forums will just make finding Oolite related things a bit more difficult in my opinion.

Ok, I understand that. I thought it's just a shame that Oolite is not represented there. As it is (for me) the best and most fun spacesim.

It would be a good idea to announce new versions of Oolite and new OXP's in that forum. Just regular updates, and it would be more a case of cut and paste with an added statement of "go here for more info". Not sure if the mods at spacesimcentral would be to happy with what would probably constitute spam on this bb though. Maybe not such a good idea. :?

Why don't you PM the moderators again, and ask them... Maybe also link this thread on the PM?
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

Ok I just did. I asked if they got a good Idea on how to do it properly.

I have no problem at all creating a sub-forum on SSC for Oolite. It doesn't need to be posted in everyday, I would just like it to be used that's all. So even if it is posts for the updates and or asking questions on features/bugs or posting pics that should do the trick.

I just created it the forum here: http://www.spacesimcentral.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=80 and it is a sub-forum of 'Free Indie and Open Source Gaming Projects'. What would be nice is a few overview posts that discuss Oolite's features and modding if at all possible. I have already linked in the website/download and pic areas of oolite in the forum description section.

Enjoy and if you have any suggestions or ideas you just have to let me know or post them in the Oolite section and I will see them. Also if there is someone willing to do a nice write up on Oolite (almost like a preview) I will post it to the blog section and it will be featured on the site and that will help get more people playing Oolite. But we can talk about that later.

I know about the posting on multiple forums pagroove that is one of the main reasons why I created SSC because now I only have to visit one site to be relatively updated on the space gaming scene :)

To expand upon this. I've seen that Cody already made an opening post. :). I support the Idea from Gimi that the Spacesimcentral serves as an alternative 'door' to the Oolite community. But we could place General info (like the faq's that are on this forum), a let's play link, links to all the recourses and announcements of new versions.

And always direct people from there to this board if they have more detailed questions.
