Military station thargoid craziness

Hello

I docked for the first time at a cool Military station (the one with the plasma cannons). The Thargoid wars mission then told me to launch and fight some thargoids. After some carnage I turned round to have a better look at the station, to find that a Boa was in a battle with the station! More weirdly a police viper was attacking the station, but was doing somersaults whilst doing it. As the viper was out of the range of the plasma cannons, this went on for some time... I then attacked the station and the Viper thanked me for the help!

Presumably some of the station's fire at the Thargoid caught some other ships, but what is that weird somersaulting all about?

Sounds fun... but this 'military station' is new to me...
