How to install "clear Skies"?

Post by LouisdeFuines »

Hi, there,

I just started playing this wonderful game.

Can someone tell me, how to install the "clear skies" oxp? It doesn`t have the OPX-Folder.

And when installed, where do I alter the settings?

Many thx!

Hi LouisdeFuines and welcome aboard... the Clear Skies oxp doesn't appear to be packaged right.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Hi, and welcome to the friendliest board this side of riedquat :)
General advice:- When you download an OXP it comes as a .zip file. This needs to be extracted and you should find (normally) two things inside, a readme file and a .oxp folder. The .oxp folder should be placed in your AddOns folder which will be located differently depending on your operating system - more details here on the wiki.
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the OXP in question, but I'd expect the readme to explain how to use it.
Hope this helps.

To get Clear skies to work, you need to save all extracted files inside a directory, then rename that directory to clearskies.oxp

Once that's done, move clearskies.oxp to the AddOns folder, and there shouldn't be any problems!

Maik looks at the board fairly often, so the the zip file should be updated in a fairly short time too. :)

I think the main problem is the underscore at the end of the directory name. However there appears to be a lot of MAC related files included which are not needed, do not think they would stop it working though.

Try this as a temporary measure... there is no readme, though.

El Viejo, GREAT!

And where do I find the menu to change the settings according to the oxp?
Is it maybe, when starting the game in the main-menu? (F2-button?)?

(Fanstastic, how quickly the help came!)

The planetinfo.plist inside the Config folder of the oxp is all you can adjust. If you change anything inside the oxp, remember to restart Oolite with the shift key held down until the spinning Cobra appears.

And DON'T use notepad for editing Oolite plists etc. It adds unwanted and un-necessary characters and will break everything. Use Notepad++, or just about any other text editor come to that, just not Notepad.

I have temporarily moved this OXP to the 'Broken' section of the Wiki table, as the download seems to be an un-installable mess. It can be re-instated when it's been tidied up and can be downloaded, un-zipped and installed without hassle.

Do I now? ;-)

Unfortunately, I'm only hosting the OXP in my box.net account. I took everything from oosat1 and oosat2 just because it's not really obvious that they will be available forever, having been left to bit-rot quite some time ago (at least that is my perception). I had some discussion about it here on the BB.

To cut the long story short: some johnsmith is the owner of the OXP (see its entry in the [wiki]OXP List[/wiki]). As it doesn't have a license attached I'd hesitate to modify it. If johnsmith is still around: I'd be happy to modify it with your permission.

That is a little irksome... johnsmith hasn't posted for four years either.

And this is why Ahruman made a big thing about licenses - one must assume the worst, not the best licensing conditions in these circumstances.

Whether Clear Skies could or should be rewritten enough to not be thought of as a derivative work and merely another OXP that does substantially the same thing, is a different matter.

A quick English language question: which would be the most correct adjective to describe this attitude, "prissy" or "priggish"?

What are you afraid of, a MPAA-like law suit over abandonware?
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.
