Intriguing post on the Frontier forum

Post by drew »

A chap has produced an 'Frontier Comic' - looks very good by the way. But one of his posts caught my eye, would love to find the citation for this. Posted below, emphasis mine.

Yes, so far I have noticed that, I just don't want to get caught up in some big copyright legal battle, without at least proving I made all efforts possible to contact the rightfull owners for permission go forward with the project first. I wouldn't be making it for financial gain, I remember seeing a post made By Braben himself saying that he welcomed Frontier fiction (mainly the stories) providing it wasn't for money making purposes, I can pretty much confirm that It wouldn't be for making money, but more to entertain those who want to see deeper into the frontier universe. I Do have one request, does anyone know what Jameson's first name is? i Know it starts with J is it John, James, or what?

Cheers,

Drew.

The comic frame does indeed look good - and that citation would be useful! (but I'm sure if it did exist - one of us would have found it before now)

this page is worth a read. whilst not dealing w/ the fanfic question (as far as i've read down, anyway, it's mostly about the original code and fan variants), it does seem DB is fairly easy and happy w/ the fanbase doing their thing, as the first 2 or three posts show.

advance warning : for those old bugers like myself who hold the original Elite ~ and the DB/IB partnership that brought us so much enjoyment ~ in high esteem, you may find this page pretty depressing.

I've read that page a few times over the years - the mud-slinging, accusations and counter-claims were deeply unpleasant.

I'm not sure "fairly easy" is a legal definition though - and that has always been the issue...

(And I still have the original boxed Firebird Elite for my C64 and indeed the C64 to play it on!) [actually I've got quite a few Firebird/Rainbird Boxes games for my C64/Amiga - Elite, Revs, Cholo, Starglider]

Nope, just the same old frog on ice.
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.
