It looks that way because the cargopod is surrounded by its protective, radar-reflective balloon, which automatically inflated as it was ejected. It will automatically deflate if it is scooped. The balloon makes the cargopod easier to find, easier to scoop, and harder to damage.RyanHoots wrote:Cargo canister compared with a Cobra Mk1: ... There's no way ten will fit inside.

My 0.2Cr on the whole scales subject:
That the scales are off, it's an integral part of the game, as Oolite isn't a flight simulator nor hard sci-fi and is unlikely to have its scales corrected for playability reasons. If you want more realistic scales, maybe you should be playing FE2, FFE (yes, I'm with the Newtonian yay gang) or some other space sim...

You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

What. The. Hell?Selezen wrote:Close, but 1gm=500cm.
Apparently I was having a DaddyHoggy moment. My mistake, I was blathering. 1gm is indeed 50cm.
@Maegil: If that's how you want to play, then that's fine. Personally, I want to try and work out some sort of "explanation" and attempt to correlate the scales.
@RyanHoots: We've established that the visuals and models use a larger size cargo pod - if you read the article I linked in the first post it explains all that. The actual DAT model file, when exported to Wings3D, illustrates that.
That's the whole reason why the article exists, because when I was trying to work out the relative scales, there was no way that 2 cargo pods would fit in an Adder - the same is true for the other ships. Try fitting 100 into an Anaconda and that's where Time Lord technology is required.
@Wildeblood: Ooh, I like that. I might steal that.
