external view - remote?
Is there an oxp to provide panoramic or remote external views / camera - so that you can get more of a scenic screen pic or watch the docking computer do its thing a bit further away than the standard externals? Like a zoom back or something?

The short answer is no.
The good news is you could define a few custom views for your ship using a shipdata-overrides.plist and that would accomplish what you want with a minimum of fuss.
The bad news is there is no way to have a camera view that can be zoomed and panned on the fly to give you the exact view you want. That's probably what you are looking for(aren't we all?) but sorry, it's not currently possible.
Maybe some lunatic will come up with a workaround in a year or so but I wouldn't count on it.

Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

yes like the mouse pan and scan from homeworld interface etc. Would be awesome.
I have it in mind now that I have an orchestral Blue Danube in iTunes docking sync to record a waltz.

Yes, and lunatics have tried. it all stems from "how" oolite positions and aims the camera. The maths is f-tricky and difficult to correct if it goes horribly wrong. Then there is the issue of refreshing the newly animated camera...... After 20 sheets worth of document pad, a calculator and a nasty migraine (even worked out a spread sheet to help me calculate the positioning) boring old ship design seemed like a stroll in the park.CommonSenseOTB wrote:The short answer is no.

It is a challenge for some young buck to cement a name with. It is an arse, however.
