What you call sarcastic I call obnoxious and casually offensive. Something you seem to be getting increasingly proficient at.commanderxairon wrote:im just being sarcastic...
That said, the book does look quite good, yes. It could just have been presented with a little more maturity.

Oh well... I'm taking note of this myself.Selezen wrote:What you call sarcastic I call obnoxious and casually offensive. Something you seem to be getting increasingly proficient at.
I sometimes tend to forget how inter-cultural perception differences can distort communication purposes...
As a Brazilian (I don't think that's the case of commanderxairon though), I should be especially careful... We generally tend to drop funny remarks towards people we're barely acquainted with, which are generally responded on-the-fly with equally caustic remarks ... all is usually done in the same cheery manner, and everybody ends up having good laughs. And 95% percent of these jokes and double-meaning expressions are related to sexual behaviors and preferences...
Incidentally, on my last job I had the boss I most admired thruout my whole career. A very good leader, and a person of Japanese ascent BTW. I recall that, at every meeting, he started by addressing the group with the expression: "Ladies..." (there were about 25 guys and 2 or 3 gals in the team).
So, note taken by myself. May the relaxed commanderxairon become a bit more aware that some people tend to take things more seriously than others.
So, have fun, everybody.

This is very true, and something that we should all remember... it is wise to get to know the norms of whichever environment one is operating in, rather than risk offending someone, which we try to avoid on this forum... we are proud of our 'friendly' community.sdrubble wrote:I sometimes tend to forget how inter-cultural perception differences can distort communication purposes
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Re: bi post Announcement / LOOK WHAT I FOUND
That is very true. Many a commander has mentioned that this place is different from a lot of other other forums with the welcome, the spam free environment, the willingness to help new ones and so forth. Now and then a commander takes a bit of time to learn how we work here and eventually adjusts his style and we being friendly, welcome that.El Viejo wrote:This is very true, and something that we should all remember... it is wise to get to know the norms of whichever environment one is operating in, rather than risk offending someone, which we try to avoid on this forum... we are proud of our 'friendly' community.
Find out about the early influences of Fatleaf here. Also his OXP's!

It also seems that virtual friendship should be a bit safer than the 'real' one on those lands...

1) Sarcasm: I found this turd of a site the other day, only a banana would look at it. Might be of use to the proletariat, certainly of little use to a man of my titanic programming skills......
2) Offence: Oi! You useless bunch of ******s! Got a site for you pack of dumb****s to nosebag over.
You see sarcasm and irony tend to use little tricks like objectification, wild over complication & self deprecation. It is a subtle art form, "Oi t*tface!" doesn't really cut it in the sarcasm department, I'm afraid. On the plus side, it's very Metal.

Re: bi post Announcement / Look what I found
I thought it was pronounced, Oit Tfaceessss? The pronunciation looses something in translation and is very tricky without a resonating air sack.
Yes, a beautiful, sultry and willing lass. 25 Metvians (chicken size blood sucking knats) and she was yours for the night. Considering the nights lasted 3 days, that's quite a bargain. Hey, until you've spent 3 days slopping around a Bireran spawning froth, don't knock it.
Such moral high ground has no place in the 8. Still, slap bang in the middle of the Sidewinder Expanse, long way to go for a shag, commander.

Re: bi post Announcement / Look what I found
In Belgium, in some areas we do that too, saying 'ladies' to a group of gentlemen or a mixed group, it's more making some kind of fun of the semi-macho response you COULD get when you say that, so in fact it's deflating sexism, in a way
(I'm afraid I muddled the explanation :s )
TL;DR: it's making fun of (potential!) macho-ism in a group, but in a non-offensive way
