Oolite won't open

Massive problem here I run oolite 1.65 on windows xp pro 32 bit.
After I run oolite a couple of times it opens the terminal and SDL then quits.
HELP

Hi matthewbtjones and welcome. I strongly suggest that you install Oolite 1.75.3 beta from here. 1.65 is very old and a little broken.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Make sure windows firewall or an anti virus program you are using is not blocking 127.0.0.1:8563

That may be the reason.

Its a ATI HD 500 something or other. And no there is no firewall blocking it.

Welcome - as others have suggested try 1.75.3 - it is much improved in efficiency in many places - however, the blockiness is the bane of ATIs continued poor implementation of the OpenGL standards. Many, many others have reported the issue over the years.

Have you tried to update the ATI gfx drivers? Depending on the actual gfx card, that sometimes does the trick.

yeah download the newer ones and use driversweeper to remove the older ones before installing new ones ok?

Trying to launch v1.75.3 of the game with the -nosplash parameter might help.

Do you mean the starfield is 'blocky'?.

If so try using simple shaders rather than full or set "use-texture-lod-bias" = NO; in your .GNUstepDefaults. (see http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Hidden ... _in_Oolite)

Either solved the problem for me (Windows XP and ATI radeon x700).

Ummmmmm when I try installing drivers they just go scanning for hardware the never ending scanning for hardware!

Can I ask if this on a laptop or a desktop. I sounds like you have managed to select the wrong driver.
Not difficult to do ATI seem to expect people using their site all have full computer degrees.
