Unreal 3 in a browser...

Post by DaddyHoggy »

So, using the latest version of Flash, you can run Unreal 3 at 60fps inside a browser – the question I have to ask is… Why?

Running the game in a browser does not interest me, but the fact that you can run the Unreal 3 graphics engine in a browser at 60fps is very interesting. Opens up some possibilities for 3D graphics dependant services on the web.

I thought about it after I'd posted - the UK MOD uses a system referred to as DII, lots of stuff is not allowed to run on it, but browsers are - so training apps based on 3D game tech, *could* be delivered through the DII network, however, because the machines on the DII network are generally used for email and powerpoint they tend to be shockingly low spec...

Good point, and that's got my imagination running. There is a potential here for graphics intensive services going through security gateways by running them as web services. Lot of potential here, wonder if anyone will exploit this. One issue is the bad reputation of flash itself. Not known for being the most secure and stable technology.

We've got 200 PCs in my lab - and Flash updates randomly and independently on all of them - I seem to spend my life confirming that I accept Adobe's T&Cs for Flash (God knows what they actually are!)
