Advanced navigational array

Post by Lucidor »

I used Getafix's distribution to install Oolite in my home directory in fedora 16.

I can't get to the Advanced navigational array (yes, I have bought it in the shipyard) using shift-6 or shift-^-space (the key combination to do ^ on a swedish keyboard) or shift-1.

I have tried copying keyconfig.plist to ~/.oolite/AddOns/ and changing the shortcut to key 82 (Insert), but it didn't work. Then I tried editing the keyconfig file in ~/GnuStep/Applications/Oolite/oolite.app/Resources/Config/, but that didn't work either. I have tried changing the increase speed key from w to I in both files just to see if I can change any key at all, but nothing works.

I've even tried deleting the files, but Oolite works fine without them. (except the advanced navigational array)

Any ideas?

The entries I changed:

key_increase_speed = "I";
key_advanced_nav_array = 82;

Can't really give you much useful advice about keycodes (hopefully someone else can), but thought I'd check that you're starting Oolite with the shift key held down to refresh the cache...

Lucidor,
To get mine working I had to put the keyconfig.plist into a sub-directory of Addons called Config, this was on Windows but I am assuming it might need something similar on Linux.
Hope this helps.

Hi Lucidor,
I believe some keys are just not usable for Oolite, whatever layout keyboard you have.
I have a converted keyboard i use as a control panel for playing, and I mapped the ANA to the 'X' key as it was un-used and in the area of the keyboard I wanted this feature.
It might be worth trying a 'regular' key (just a normal letter) to see if it works.
You seem to be doing the right things, but I wouldn't edit the game's main keyconfig.plist. Stay with what you've done...copy the original into AddOns (no need to nest it in a 'Config' folder for linux at least) and change that copy. And as Mauiby mentioned, hold down 'shift' when you start the game.

Thanks for the replies! I've tried all of them.
I mapped the ANA to the 'X' key
How does that work? When I press any letter-key, it starts searching for planets beginning with that letter.

About the shift-starting, is that a Gnome thing?
I tried it with ~/GNUstep/Applications/Oolite/oolite but not much happened, I think. Is there any command line argument to clean the cache? As in ~/GNUstep/Applications/Oolite/oolite --clean-cache or something.

Shift-starting means that you run the executable and then hold shift until the start screen appears. It is an Oolite thing.

If you still can't get it working, post your latest.log - it'll say if the cache was rebuilt there, and if it can find your keyconfig.plist...

Ok. I thought I should hold shilft while clicking the icon. :)

On Mint 11 if I hold the shift key down when I click the icon in the games menu I get the cache cleared message with no problems. It would appear from your posted log that this is not happening for you. This also happens if I hold the shift key down while starting Oolite from a terminal window.
A typical set of lines in the log file are here:
15:14:11.245 [display.mode.list.native]: X11 native resolution detected: 1920 x 1200
15:14:11.377 [joystick.init]: Number of joysticks detected: 0
15:14:11.390 [dataCache.rebuild.explicitFlush]: Cache explicitly flushed with shift key. Rebuilding from scratch.

Yeah, do what maik says in order to shift start. If it works then this line'll appear in the log file:

Code: Select all

15:11:49.169 [dataCache.rebuild.explicitFlush]: Cache explicitly flushed with shift key. Rebuilding from scratch.
You appear to have a lot of out-of-date oxps in there. At a gance I can see that Saleza, Feudal States, Anarchies, Random Hits, Snoopers (which also requires the Cabal Config Library to run these days), Executive Spaceways, Dictators all have updates, some more significant than others, and in some cases, your older versions may well not work properly due to deprecated functions. There are also log errors related to dredgers and some of griffs ships in there (which of his ships, I do not know). I'd advise you to update them to make sure you have the most recent versions. But that's unrelated to the current problem.

I don't know what MyConfig.oxp is. But if it's where you're trying to put your updated keyconfig.plist, then that may be why it's not working. Just place the plist in the AddOns folder alongside the rest of these oxps.

Also, there are some keys that can't be mapped to. I tried mapping the cloaking device to my number pad and had no success. It may be that Insert is one of these. Your idea of trying to move the increase speed to something to see if it works makes sense, although remember that "i" and "I" are not the same and you'd have to press shift and the "i" key to see if it works.

Hi Lucidor... I see you are using the Griff individual OXPs, instead of the all-in-one. You need to install the Griff_normalmapped_ship_decals from here. That will remove a lot of those errors.

Myconfig.oxp! Why didn't I see that right away?

I guess that's where Oolite stored user configurations a long time ago. I've been playing this game since 2004 or so. :)

Deleted Myconfig.oxp (which only contained a keyconfig.plist) and everything works as it should!

I couldn't map it to Insert or §, but it's on B now.

Thanks everyone! :)

(And yes, I should update those oxp's.)

The error:

Code: Select all

16:47:00.533 [ship.setUp.escortShipCircularReference]: ----- WARNING: Ship <ShipEntity 0x69ae220>{"Junta Enforcer" position: (-36732.4, 63315.7, 432670) scanClass: CLASS_POLICE status: STATUS_IN_FLIGHT} requested escorts, when it is an escort ship itself. Avoiding possible circular reference overflow by ignoring escort setup.
is from dictators. It is fixed in the current 1.5 release.

The dredgers error is also fixed in the latest release. Or you could go to the indicated script and change "System.mainPlanet" into "system.mainPlanet".

While I'm asking things.. I just noticed that I've been labelled 'offender'. It's been so long since that happened the last time, I forgot how this works. Is it possible to pay a fee or something to become clean again?

Not in the core game. But with Anarchies installed, you have the option of bribing a GalCop official, visiting the Hackers, or in the latest version, taking part in an Amnesty by completing a small mission...
