Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
Yo, Ryan, if you want, you can download my "Zaonce Start" savefile and buy your Clipper. It has 100 K to get you started (barely enough to cover the ship and a handful of upgrades). Then, if you must clear your conscience, remove 100 K from your other save file, and you're all set. (Transferring creds isn't a crime, right?)RyanHoots wrote:New savefile?
I'll never fly a Cobra. Never! Unless, of course, it one of those new S9 Cobras, I could do it. Maybe if I copied my savefile, loaded it, and bought a Clipper? Then I can go back to Komodo if I want to. Sounds like a plan! If I do switch, I'm sure I can work Komodo dieing into a short story, to explain it all.

I have the ship! She's fully upgraded, and I still have 2 million credits left. Now I need a name (shouldn't be too hard.

You forgot one thing - downgrade your pulse laser for twin plasma cannonsEldon wrote:I had a go at a broke adder start last night; griff adder, no fuel, no missile, no credits, no nuthin'.

Oh and did I mention the range of that slow firing weapon is around 5km?

Then why does mine seem to damage ships between 5 and 10 km away...?Bugbear wrote:Oh and did I mention the range of that slow firing weapon is around 5km?

Because the Red Wyvern has plasma turrets, not cannons. Cannons replace your laser, but turrets, like the ones on Caddies and Wyverns, are different.

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
Mm, that would explain it. Thank you.
Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
I went with a DIY version: start a Jameson, buy a cobra, sell the missile, use the debug console to set the credits and fuel to zero. So no only do I have the luxury of a pulse laser, I also still have heat shielding. I've also hacked in the possibility of a 3TC large cargo bay.
I'm currently docked at Tionisla. I've got myself the extended cargo bay, fuel injectors, scanner targeting enhancement, an an advanced space compass, in about that order. I've got a full load of computers to take to Isinor and 1,268.6 in the bank. Got to work out what to buy with that, or do I save up for the energy eating Mill laser?
The milk runs are working well so far, with occasional stop-offs at the graveyard station
I've got up to Mostly Harmless (8) on a few lone pirates (though I have died to gangs a couple of times, specially before I got the injectors for running away). I've got spare fuel on my pylon, just in case.
Life's going well for the imaginatvely named "Commander Broke Adder".

They are off the same family line. They both have a knack of dying very quicklyWildeblood wrote:I wonder if he's related to Commander Test Ship?Eldon wrote:Life's going well for the imaginatvely named "Commander Broke Adder".

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
Greetings,
This qualifies for a "what was I thinking?" episode. Noobies would be smart to file this away in their hard memory.
I was happily cruising the scene after a fast and furious fight at a local seedy bar in galaxy 3. We had just beat off 20+ thargoid warships and their spawn. I got 12 of the warships and then collected up 30 tonnes of derelict robotic wearships. I then added to my count with another 15 destroyed for practice. As I was looking around, I saw a "renegade station"... What the Hey-- time to investigate this new item. I maneuvered to dock and once inside, my vortex was boarded by small vicious black insectoids who presented me with their communication board: " Either you are incredibly stupid or incredibly brave... this is a pirate base and you are NO pirate. We will let you live but am taking your entire cargo and 10,000cr from your account as ransom."
Once that was done and I transferred the ransom, their communication board lit up again: " You are free to go but never come back under pain of death".
I hit the launch and boosted the vortex out of their dock. Once in space I counted my losses: the 10,000cr was chump change that I can make up in short order. I was more worried about my cargo: I has 120 tonnes of narcotics stashed away and was concerned about that more than the money. I checked bay #1, then rapidly checked the other 3 bays... only bay #5 was looted.
Those insectoids are not all that smart: If they had done their vessel recognition, they would have found out that a Vortex has more than 1 cargo bay. Small loss for me but huge mistake for the not so smart pirates. Yes, 30 tonnes of robotic debris is a small price to pay for being a gullible pilot.

Wow. Good to know before I dock with one by accident! I really won't feel bad about taking out the escorts and railgun blasting those suckers!

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
Here's a story for you fine folks, just got back from the encounter. Very fun, it even gave me an idea for my story...
Well, I was flying in the spacelanes in a Chopped Cobra, just to see how it performed for me. I shot down a lone wolf Python. The escape pod shot off, headed for nowhere (but it must get to the station eventually), so I decided to scoop it, but I ejected it to have some fun. It wasn't moving. I used the external view to level the laser at it, and just waited. I got bored, so I wasted a hardhead on the pod. The external view showed the missile flying back and forth, missing the pod every time, but it hit. It was a fun day in the life of "Commander Chopped Cobby Test"
