Split: Fuel supercharger suggestion
Rumour has it that a certain insectiod ship and equipment designer has developed a higher efficiency Military grade fuel injection system. Only available on a particular and reassuringly expensive ship at the moment. I wonder if a mass market equipment version would/should be made available at any point.
Another idea I had would be for an alternative new tech 'injector speed' propulsion model for a high end OXP ship. Can switch between using fuel or energy......maybe automatically depending on the ships energy status, or using N/shift N.

Ooooh - interesting. Useful to break through mass lock, scary as hell to use in combat. Nice balance for a piece of pimpy kit.Capt. Re: Fuel Station OXP
I toyed with this idea breifly last year. The concept was a supercharger that uses a very small amount of fuel to double the ship's max speed when the throttle was at red. Even had a mock high pitched motor whine for it but could not get it to work then as my scripting was almost nonexistent. Perhaps now with Velocity and some clever scripting it could be done.Capt. I just thought of something really cool. What if you use the fuel injectors as a primer for the quirium supercharger or Q-charger as I like to call it. When you tap your injectors and the ship goes above double speed but doesn't exceed triple speed it trips a switch and after if the speed drops below double speed then the Q-charger kicks in. Insert supercharger whine sound here. To get it off do the same thing by tapping your injectors to flip the switch. No n/shift+n needed. The tricky part might be getting the velocity scripting to work just so otherwise it would be a no steer boost. Maybe get the velocity to shift based on the change in attitude of the ship. That would be a neat piece of code. I would have it use 10% of the fuel the ship would use on injectors and use 1 energy/second only as even a racing adder should be able to have one and not have a problem. Cost 3000 credits and requires EQ_FUEL_INJECTION to buy it and to operate requires fuel injectors and either an extra energy unit or naval energy unit.
This can work Capt. Murphy. My only request is that you name it the "Q-charger".
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

Re: Fuel Station OXP
Something like that would be quite easy to script - it's essentially Retro Rockets but pointing the other way

Interesting suggestion. Split to its own thread at Thargoid's request.

Re: Split: Fuel supercharger suggestion
I suggested something similar way back when Thargoid first produced the Fuel Stations - I suggested using some of the Companies from YAH to produce branded Fuel Stations which then gave you a (slightly) better top speed and a slightly more efficient burn when using injectors (and thus justifying the use of specialised fuel stations and costs) - at the time of the suggestion I think it was impossible save scripting putting a little bit of fuel back as it was burnt, thus simulating the slightly leaner burn.

Re: Split: Fuel supercharger suggestion
The leaner fuel burn is what he does in the Vortex to give it it's Military Grade Injectors.
CSOTB - I'd give that a go at scripting yourself again - I know you are up to ears in HUD stuff, but then again I'm unlikely to get on to your specific idea any time soon.
I was never planning to do the fuel/energy dual injection idea as an equipment item, it was to be reserved as one of several unique selling point for an as yet unmodelled ship that was going to be part of an as yet unwritten mission OXP. But then again that may never come to fruition because I haven't got a clue about modelling.

There are lots of modellers on the the BB, I've seen stuff made from a few pencil sketches my somebody else...

I haven't got an (visually) artistic bone in my body so I doubt a pencil sketch by me would help anyone!.DaddyHoggy wrote:There are lots of modellers on the the BB, I've seen stuff made from a few pencil sketches my somebody else...
I've just posted a new topic with a couple of other ideas that people might want to pick up on.

Then grab some imagery off Google: "The nose of this... The engines from this, hull shape from this but smoother, thinner... The colour/texture of this... The size of Cobra/Boa/Adder..." etc. I'm sure it can be done!Capt. OK, I'm going to do the Q-Charger oxpCapt. Murphy wrote:The leaner fuel burn is what he does in the Vortex to give it it's Military Grade Injectors.

A nice little diversion from huds is good now and then. If no snags should be out in a couple of days.
This should be fun!

Re: Split: Fuel supercharger suggestion
Indeed, something between retro-rockets (pointing in the other direction though ) and the Mil fuel injectors on the Vortex could make a nice feature on an OXP ship (or equipment). Will be interesting to see what comes of this as a nice new idea (which deserved a thread of its own beyond the Fuel Station one, as it's now a free-floating idea of its own).

Back to the original question: Tharg, could you do the Mil grade injectors as buyable equipment OXP?
Re: Split: Fuel supercharger suggestion
Yes - I'll put it on the to-do list as an upgrade to the regular ones.

Fill fit on anything with injectors except the Vortex and the Maelstrom.
