You know you can change the external views in the shipdata, yes? Under the external views section, find the bit that says "view position" and increase all the numbers that follow it by a factor of 2 or more. Keep experimenting 'till you get the view far enough away from the ship to look right.

Oh I can think of something like this that was kicking around in about Oolite 1.72 or 1.73 - much to the annoyance of some Commanders. It was in RS if I remember correctly, plus perhaps in at least one mission OXP or concept.

yes. you can get the ship but not the multiguns. but that makes it in effect just a normal MkIV, so what's the point?
