Maybe I'm being thick, but things don't seem to be working.

Hello all,

Delighted to discover Oolite a week ago. Already I have 1,285 kills and 26,000 credits. Rock on...!

But there's a problem. I can't seem to access the celebrated added features of Oolite. I can't find any of the new equipment (Witch fuel injectors etc.), or ships to buy. Furthermore, it appears that my saved game has become 'broken', somehow. I'm currently in Galaxy 2, trying to jump to Galaxy 3 so that I can undertake the Thargoid Plans mission, but I can't seem to buy a Galactic Hyperdrive - no matter the tech level of the planet that I visit, the only items I can find in the Outfitting screen are, I think, Pulse Lasers, Escape Pods and Energy Bombs. I'm currently docked at a planet with a tech level of 13, and that's all that's available.

Does anybody have any advice for this?

Thanks in advance,

DH.

Check the F2 screen, and make sure you haven't set the game to "strict play". Oh, and welcome to the boards!

Thank you. Much appreciated.

Okay, well, it looks like I was set to strict play. Does that mean that my saved game is irretrievably stuck at 'strict'? Would I need to start again? If so, I'll do without. I'm not going back to Harmless...!

Any thoughts on the unavailability of proper kit at the tech level 13 planet?

Hi dh2005 and welcome... your save-game should be fine.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

you can set it to 'un-strict' in the setting, if that doesn't work, by editing your save-file, because it is in plaintext.

Do use texteditor, not a 'big' wordprocessor, because thos add hidden extra stuff that make the file unreadable.

In any case, make a backup of your savedfile first (!!!)

look into the file for 'strict mode = true (something like that)

change it fo false

You can do a lot more with your savefile.

As EV says, the saved game should be fine. As for equipment, try leaving the station and redocking now you're off strict mode. If that fails, leave the system and come back (or go to any TL10 and above systems nearby) and look again.
