missiles

Post by hoqllnq »

i think it would be nice if the missiles that dont explode on ecm would still be
disoriented/blinded by it. that way you could more easily dodge them.

what is the life span of ecm immune missiles (or any missile for that matter)?

in bbc elite it was way easier to shoot missiles. in oolite its impossible except
when you happen to hit a missile just as the ship youre shooting at launches
it.

i merely dodge them, with fuel injectors, they're not that long-lived, and using the 'i' while looping doesn't give them a chance, while you can still stay in approx region of interest (enemies, debris-fields etc)
I see them as a deterrent, forcing to temporarily break off an attack, but *I'll be back!*

:) yeah .. i fuel-inject a certain distance, then wait for the missile to come
close, then inject back to where i was doing my business. repeat should the
missile make it back.

It would be nice if you could *see* missiles at more than about 30cm range...

They have an exaust plume you ought to be able to see clear across the system, but they go invisible at an absurdly small distance.

“Hold-down ecm button for progressively more aggressive ECM tactics” is a ticked button on Giles’s Tada list. Hmm, I should test that. :-)

I agree about the missiles. Generally speaking, it would be nice to modify the cut-off threshold for high-end systems, and for the cut-off to take plumes into account.

I modified the idea slightly. Repeated deployments of ECM now work on hardened missiles 10% of the time.

Which means that Giles has just volunteered to buy all us easily panicked pilots a new keyboard.

How about the fun that couuld be had with a missile that aims for ECM transmitting targets?

The Phoenix AAM that equipped US Navy Tomcats had a home on ECM function, and also there is ALARM/HARM anti-radiation missiles.

so can this be incorporated this into Oolite?

Launch Anti ECM/ALARM missile. The missiles coasts away in general direction of target. Any target that either illuminates launch ship with a target scanner or initates an ECM device becomes the missile's target.

Only escape, move out of vinicity or missile's homing range. If none of the above are achived within a predetermined time then missile self destructs.

Good cheer
