[Resource] OoDecade Blimp

Post by ADCK »

As seen in the WIP thread.

Image

I've uploaded the dat, texture and wings file for anyone who wants to use them anywhere, it's a resource that's free for all to use.

It's currently about the same size as a Python.

That looks good. Now add some advertising and place them close to cloud cities around gas giants...
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

Is that a docking bay in the bottom? Or just a really large window?

Standard size window, as mentioned above the ship is about the same size as a Python.
Originally it was about the same size as a Bulk Hauler, but it looked much too big so I made it smaller.
You could even pilot one as its small enough to dock a station, but I didn't write up any plists for it.

I wonder if some shader Whizz could take the advertising ring of a constore and wrap it around the centre (nose to tail) of this...

This brings back memories...

There was ( quite awhile ago) somebody who wanted to make a big OXP/rewrite Oolite to make it some kind of Blimp/Zeppelin sim.

LOL that made me laugh like a loon!

Now I want to make a hot-air balloon... IN SPACE!

The obvious application would be advertising. Basically it could be a big, cheap, mobile billboard.

Maybe it could also hold cargo. It would sit in the station aegis and work as a billboard, and the company could save money by using it as an orbital warehouse. Rather than paying to store all the cargo on the station, they transfer cargo between the warehouse on the main station and the blimp. The cargo on the blimp would be stuff they wanted to keep in long term storage.

Another application would be space tourism, much like for RealLife™ blimps. Short sight-seeing tours around the planet, nothing deep-spacey. It would be marketed primarily to the inhabitants of the planet themselves, most of whom never have left the surface. And rather in rich and safe systems (rich and average industrials and agriculturals, at least dictatorship).

About cargo, considering the actual 'balloon' would not need any gas in it to float (Hehe) since you're in space, it would probably be used for storage of cargo.
