Music - is this possible?

Post by Phoenix4 »

Hi, is there any way of changing the docking music (Strauss' - Blue Danube)?

I have this great piece of music on CD performed by a full orchestra (cannot recall which), and was wondering if it could be converted and added to Oolite to replace the current version.

More like the film '2001'......

Just a thought.

Thanks

Forgot to add...

This is the 1.62 build running on Windows XP Pro.

Thanks!

Have you ever heard of something called copyright? :)

Either way, I like NoSleep's version.

The musicfiles are in Oolite/Contents/Recourses/Music/

So just swapping the file BlueDanube.ogg with your music should do it. Your music is probably .mp3, so you'll have to convert it to ogg, and then rename it to BlueDanube.ogg

As Galileo pointed out, that'd be for personal use only, Oolite couldn't be distributed otherwise.

I should point out that the actual composition was composed in 1867 by Johann Strauss II and the composition itself is exempt from copyright. But an individual recording such as yours is (probably) under copyright and therefore can't be distributed with Oolite. But like Rxke said, there's nothing stopping you from using it in you're version of Oolite.

Thanks for the replies -

Yes, this will only be used on my PC - not to be distributed at all.

I just fancy a change of music...

I'll try the converter though.

Thanks again all!

NoSleep only composed the Main Theme - not the docking music (which is true to O.G Elite)

Since No Sleep did such a great job with the title music perhaps he could jazz up the docking theme too? I find the current version a bit too "Casio/electronic" if you know what I mean. (So I really understand Phoenix4 wanting to replace it.)

An orchestraic version.

Although, I'm not sure if this is frowned upon, or not...

I don't know. Who has the copyright for the Blue Danube Waltz?
