How does One remove no longer needed ships?

Post by Yah-Ta-Hey »

I have been experimenting with different types of ships and now I have a LONG list of ships that I no longer need or want to use.... How do I remove them from the list of ships that I start out with? Thanks.

If they're OXP ships, remove the OXPs. (= Move the OXP from your AddOns folder to somewhere else.)

It's as simple as that, and not only with ships.

yes, They are oxp ships. I just tried that ..actually deleted the whole oxp, restarted the game with the Shift and still have my 6 caudecus listed.. all are exactly the same except in location and time.
I even deleted the entire game and oxp folders, reloaded the game and I still get my ships back.. it is as if they are being cached somewhere and readded to the new game.

I guess you've deleted the OXP in the wrong place. Are you sure it was the copy inside the AddOns-folder inside the main Oolite-folder?

After deleting (or adding) an OXP you don't even need to press SHIFT when restarting Oolite. Whenever Oolite find other OXPs as at its last start it re-builds the cache automatically.

Please post the header of your latest.log. That shows from which locations Oolite has loaded OXPs.

Are you talking about your game-save files by any chance ?
Those will still be listed, although the ship will be undefined (instead of the shape its hows a '?' rotating), you need to delete the save files for those to disappear. Sorry I do not know the windows location of those, on linux they are under ~/oolite-saves/
and named like: Jameson.oolite-save

Under Windows by default they're in oolite.app/oolite-saves inside the install directory. That said of course you can also save them anywhere you like on your HD simply by navigating to that folder within the save game screen...

I did find another cache area that the oxp from all of my previous experiments and deleted it from there.. now I have a rotating question...

I found the save files under olite apps just like you said and was able to delete them.... You guys are the greatest... Thank You.

Are you running under Windows7, with Oolite installed under program files?

Yes, I am running windows 7 home premium.. and it is installed under it's own Oolite folder.
I reinstalled the neocaudecus oxp and the rotation question disappeared and was replaced with the caudecus image.
I also got rid of the cached oxps and the irritating suden crash went away also... I would be 3/4 of the way through a long cross galaxy courier mission when the game would stop responding and then go away ,leaving me with my desktop.

The question mark means that the ship used by the save game isn't installed or available any more. Removing the OXP of course would cause that, but will also make any save game that is using the ship non-valid. As you've seen you can fix that by re-adding the ship, or alternatively before you de-install the OXP you should check the save games you have and sell the ship in any that use the OXP ship.

Removing OXPs will not remove save games, as you've also seen. If you want to do that it's a manual edit to remove the files in the oolite-saves folder.

I mentioned Win7 and program files as the OS caches it, so removing the OXP if Oolite is installed there doesn't remove it from the cached version (which is actually what the OS runs) and has caused some interesting problems in the past. Hence the recommendation not to install the game under program files on Win7.
