He shouldn't have that AI - something isn't right there. He should be under TCAT_ThargoidAI.plist or something like that...
That was from a test oxp, I wrote but will not publish for the time being, just to see if I can set another AI than the default AI to Thargoids(except you ). The current version just changes the AI of any ship with SCAN_CLASS_THARGOID and sets the bounty to zero, but it is not good enough. First I thought of yellow and green for scanner colours but I realized they are used for beacons, end up with using blue and green. But from the screenshot you can see the alert level is still red.
But it is good one fun to see a commsMessage from a thargoid saying "Please Help .... attacking us"
So you'd have to "hack up" Thargoid warships even more before they're treated as something other than (alien)?
Yes, because they are alien, and their whole purpose is being alien.
What would be the point of changing that, other than proving that one can do things that make no sense? We all know that one can, it doesn't need to be proved time and again.
If you don't like incomprehensible, hostile aliens to be a part of Oolite, the more logical way would be to remove Thargoids altogether, because their whole reason for being in the game is to invoke the incomprehensible-hostile-aliens trope. Turning them into something else than incomprehensible-hostile-aliens strikes me as silly.
Perhaps I was considering captured Thargoid ships controlled by non-Thargoid users.
Sometimes it's good to know the limits of the game engine even if normally nothing has any reason to get anywhere NEAR those limits. This might be helpful later on, in ways so unusual that no one has yet imagined them yet...
In short, no need to be so critical.

While I can't say I was intending to have friendly Thargoids...while running tests with my mod, I did have an instance with a Thargoid having the pirateAI.plist! No, this wasn't intentional...I was not trying to give them a pirate ai. I have no idea how it happened, only that it did according to the log file.
Edit:
Just playing around with an old ship I had on my HD for Quites some time. Diameter 6 km. Began life as a navy ship but I decided to Thargonize it.
So that thing is over 50 times the size of a Cobra? Like a slice taken across the cylinder of a generation ship.. That big, I'd assume it's a capship or carrier?
Well, maybe that'd be why one doesn't find Thargoid homeworlds. With ships like that, maybe they don't actually need them anymore?
They need somewhere to go in case someone sets them up the virus.
I had the same thought. Looking quite Independence Day.
It could also be a new alien race, unrelated to the Thargoids, which poses a new thread. Unlike the Thargoids who concentrate their efforts in interstellar space this new race would attack planets.
If someone wants the unfinished OXP to incorporate the ship in a mission. Then PM me. It does not have a Thargoid AI Atm, instead it used bigships. But it has only a 'green skin' at the moment.
Could be a Thargoid Basestar (orgininal huh? ), a breeding colony, hive or a witchspace disruptor.
I uploaded the ship.
For anyone who wants to take a look or build a mission around this Thargoid disc be my guest. It would be especially fun if someone could add lots of invisible plasma cannons and lasers to it in addition to have it generate fleets of thargoids:
As in the Readme:
Thargoid disc.
Ship to add in an OXP. Free to use in another mission OXP.
WARNING>
-NEEDS bigships at this moment but better is to give it an Thargoid AI (provided that you are gona use the ship as a thargoid)
-No support> I do not support this OXP further.
-For testing only (normally I have this OXP disabled).
You may texture it or retexture it. Everything is fine as long as you credit me. and ADCK as the maker of the model.
And of coure it is a non-commercial release.
In the ready-room, the test pilots are drinking beer…
‘So… what did you think of that last mission, guys?’
‘Got a bit tricky at times, Cap… but we all made it back okay.’
‘Ha… ‘tricky’, he calls it… it nearly did for me, I can tell you.’
‘Yeah… we noticed you were last back… again.’
‘You just love buying the beer, don’t you… cheers.’
From down the corridor, a distant cackling laugh was heard… the pilots glanced uneasily at each other…
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!
