@smiggy and @m4r35n357:
Try resizing a bit the window until its height and width are not end to end with the borders of your screen.
The window contents should be visible, now. Then, press F12.

Hi Getafix,

Tried that, F12 still does nothing, window max button still blanks contents. Here's some of my system info:

Ugh, the dreaded intel graphics chipset... Their GMAs are theoretically shaders capable - if not particularly fast - but their OpenGL drivers are fairly buggy, even on windows, the OS intel supports most...

You might have to try as many alternative graphic card drivers as possible - including a couple of older, even deprecated drivers, to see which one causes you the least hassle... :(

@smiggy and @m4r35n357:
It is a known weird behavior for windowed full screen mode. I get it almost always in VBox machines.
I am not trying to solve it. I am trying to work around it.

1. Resize the window from the bottom right corner, adjusting/reducing both width and height by more than 1cm.
The Oolite window contents should now appear. Do NOT maximize the window.
2. Make sure the Oolite window has the focus and press F12 to get Full Screen Mode (not windowed).

Firstly, I understand you are talking about a workaround, and appreciate your help! Thing is, I always start out with a non-maximised window with contents, if I resize it the contents are redrawn as you say, I can do this over and over again and the contents are scaled and redrawn. However F12 does nothing. Have I misunderstood something?

What if you go into oolite options (press "2" while docked or "F2" if you are in flight)and
select "Game Options.../Play in Full Screen"?

Hi Getafix, thanks for the suggestions! Play in full screen seems not to be configurable on this machine ie. it is permanently set, I can't get the text to change using the arrow keys at any rate. Perhaps that is another symtom of the problem . . . ? Ian.

You are welcome, Ian.
So, Ian, you tell me that in your installation if you press <Enter> highlighting the following oolite option:
Image
you don't get Full Screen mode, right? If it is right, then, what do you get?
Do you just get a blank (black in fact) maximized window?

Sorry for the questions but I am trying to get a grasp of your case.

NP ;) Sorry if I was unclear, it says "play in full screen mode" and always has, and I can't change it at all from the UI! So yeah that's not right . . . IIRC I've tried setting it in the text file as well, but it just gets ignored in the UI & re-saved as YES - I'll check when the lappy is back up. BTW pretty sure I have no Compiz stuff, everything is greyed out in the controls, even "no effects". Perhaps I've just bought a turkey, graphics-wise. Cheers, Ian.

OK, I've checked and I got it slightly wrong, it's always NO in the config file, if I edit it to YES it is ignored, and I can't change it in the GUI, and it is re-saved as NO in the config file. Ian.

@Ian and @smiggy:
Please, post your ~/GNUstep/Defaults/.GNUstepDefaults file contents.

Hint: Paste the file contents in the reply window, then highlight it and
press the "Code" button in the formatting toolbar.

Hi Getafix, see below for config. I have set everything to off I think. One other thing I noticed is that my selection of male/female speaker is not being saved either, it keeps being set to male on load. Thanks, Ian.

Hi guys.

Tried everything suggested to no avail.
Updated Nvidia driver to latest version too.

Couple of extra checks/steps I've noticed have been added so will try them tonight/tomorrow.
Seeing as all worked perfectly in 1.65 I can only assume it's a bug.
Seems I'm not the only one too which is reassuring!

Ian, please replace, in the .GNUstepDefaults file, the

Code: Select all

   <key>fullscreen</key>
   <string>NO</string>
by

Code: Select all

	<key>display_height</key>
	<integer>600</integer>
	<key>display_refresh</key>
	<integer>0</integer>
	<key>display_width</key>
	<integer>800</integer>
	<key>fullscreen</key>
	<string>YES</string>
and give it a try.

Hi Getafix - yes that worked, thanks very much! Fullscreen for the first time on the lappy, wonder if I can get a higher resolution now . . . Ian.
