Definitely not museum material.

Re the absence of our primary katana-wielders (DH&EV):
I'm less concerned with the speedy spam removal (I think a_c is doing cleanup in the afternoons; I seem to have noticed his presence coinciding with their disappearance) than I am with potential delay in first-post approval. I've no clue as to how precise this phpbb thing is when it comes to fine tuning of admin powers. Is it possible to restrict them to post-approval only? If so, it might be an idea to widen the pool a bit (and conceivably take time zones into consideration in the selection process) to keep new members in limbo for as short a time as possible.

The first-post approval is an issue, because we don't want genuine new members thinking they are being ignored or blocked.
I'm thinking we need more co-ordination and perhaps more people on the job to spread the load as well. There is a good case for having three levels of spam control.
Eyes and ears are always useful, so perhaps those who regularly scan for spam and report it (like myself) could be elevated to Clocktower Watchman - no admin powers but with a brief to watch for and report spam regularly.
Clocktower Postman, who has the job of checking first-posts and Ok-ing them or not as the case may be, and full Assassins who have the power to remove spammers from the members list.
The last two roles could be rolled into one, but splitting the roles would spread the load a bit and would free up some folks time to actually administer the coup de grace where needed, while others scan first posts prior to them being posted.
The key thing is there needs to be some co-ordination to ensure someone is 'on duty' at all times.

The name, the occupation, the interests, the website ... It's nice that he can combine his job with his hobby: just a shame his hobby is so repellent.

With EV currently computer-less, is anybody actually dispatching these at the moment?
No.
I find your lack of research disturbing.

It hasn’t been so far. (I think normal mods can approve posts too.)

Stop Forum Spam – a site which logs spambot profile names. It doesn't cover all of them by any means but it can be useful to check suspects.
