The sound of Pi

Post by CheeseRedux »

Or as they say, the most impressive way to not get laid.

Happy Pi day!

Hah, I did something similar a few years ago for one of my AS Level compositions. Except mine was for solo piano, I used C Minor as the key (possibly my favourite key), and went to 52 decimal places. I turned the numbers into the melody, used 0 as a rest, and I used whatever chords and duration I thought fitted.

Believe it or not, I didn't even know it was Pi day! How remiss of me...

In french, we have a famous poem to memorize the 120 something decimals of pi. After checking wikipedia, I found the complete version, I only know the part in italique which makes already 49 decimals (you have to count each letter of the words, que:3, j':1, aime:4, a:1, faire:5, apprendre:9 = 3.14159):

Dédoublera chaque élément antérieur ;
Toujours de l'orbe calculée approchera ;
Définira limite ; enfin, l'arc, le limiteur
De cet inquiétant cercle, ennemi trop rebelle
Professeur, enseignez son problème avec zèle

Incredibly useless...
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.

Neat!

But what about the zeros?

EDIT: I should have counted letters before I wrote. :oops: 'mystérieux' has ten letters.

No probably about it! It was proved 250 years ago that pi is irrational.

What's this... there is no pi?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

It's not irrational, it's just misunderstood and a bit grumpy at times... :wink:
