I seriously got misty eyed

Post by twthomas »

I have no way to express the joy I have in coming across OOLITE.

Let me start by saying that like probably everyone on this board, I feel that
Elite remains not only the best video game ever made but probably the greatest wonder
in programing.

I still have my original Elite for the C-64 as well as a copy of the original
PC version. They both sit in a special place amongst my game
collection.

Often I have cornered by nephew or some unsuspecting guest in my house
and 'entertained' them with my history with Elite. I can tell they enjoy
my stories by their feigning disinterest. You know, looking at their watch,
stifling yawns with the backs of their hands, pretending to nod off.

My mind still cannot wrap itself around this game. All those planets, ships,
docking stations, a whole universe on a 5 1/4 disk and a machine with
a whopping 64K of memory.

Well before someone on here starts the same routine my guests
perform I just want to say I honestly felt like I had discovered
an old friend tonight. I simply want to say thank you to everyone
involved for bringing one of the great joys in my life back into my life.

Hi twthomas,
and welcome to the friendliest board this side of Riedquat.
You'll find most of us are 'Old Eliters', and we'll be happy to help out and answer any questions you have.
You will find the Wiki and the OXP list both very useful.
Cheers,
Smivs.

Hi TWT,

as Smivs has already said - you are most welcome - you're in good company - and your love for the old Elite and the new Oolite is at the heart of this forum and the continued development of Oolite.

Hi twthomas,
Welcome - I was at school in 1984 when Elite was released. Like yourself I was amazed that something so awesome was available for my computer. I was hooked and stopped spending my pocket money on "Space Invaders" for 20c a pop - and shifted to hours of excitement with Elite.
I discovered Oolite just last month - totally a joy to behold.
Have fun!

Have you tried docking at full speed lately?
