[REQUEST] Can someone (pagroove?) make MoonOXP

Pagroove (Master of Planet Building) could you put together a MoonOXP?
The above URL provides clear, scalable images of our moon - check it out.
Imagine - you load the OXP, you fly between planets and spot our Moon and go in for a closer look.
Maybe land using PlanetFall OXP.
Maybe spot a derelict Cobra III being repaired (oops forgot which OXP)?
Maybe dock with a secret base called "Far Side"?
MoonOXP would grab the attention of New and Old(ish) players alike.
Good/bad idea?

I like the idea, but it would not seem right if the earth wasn't there as well.

Very true...TGHC wrote:I like the idea, but it would not seem right if the earth wasn't there as well.
Have searched the Ooniverse and not found Earth in any of the Galaxies...
My coding days are way back in the 1990s at Uni otherwise I'd give it a go.

That's what I think, too.TGHC wrote:I like the idea, but it would not seem right if the earth wasn't there as well.

Oolite takes place in a fictional universe, and Earth isn't part of that universe. Oolite is a recreation of a space game from the eighties called 'Elite', and that was not about Earth and didn't contain Earth. It makes no sense to include Earth now. Oolite is not a simulation of the real universe. If you want that, including a wonderful moon (and all the rest of the planets and their moons as a bonus) you should try Celestia.
And by the way: You couldn't create a texture from two flat pictures of the moon anyway, that's not how texturing a sphere works. And even if you could, the textures would be waaaaaaaay too detailed and too big to be of any use. Also, pagroove is probably not the best guy to address here. I know him for his stations and a couple of other things, but not particularly for planet texturing.

You are right - Oolite is not a simulation of the real universe.Commander McLane wrote:That's what I think, too.TGHC wrote:I like the idea, but it would not seem right if the earth wasn't there as well.

Just an idea. [Gets back to playing Oolite]

Try Deep Horizon - Systems. Four of the ten textures used for moons are based on our moon.

Of course you could, assuming they covered all of it. You’d need a suitable tool; adding support to Planettool would be quite easy.Commander McLane wrote:And by the way: You couldn't create a texture from two flat pictures of the moon anyway, that's not how texturing a sphere works.
That said, there are lots of pictures of the moon in texture-friendly format already.

That was the bit where I had my doubts.Ahruman wrote:Of course you could, assuming they covered all of it.Commander McLane wrote:And by the way: You couldn't create a texture from two flat pictures of the moon anyway, that's not how texturing a sphere works.

Re: [REQUEST] Can someone (pagroove?) make MoonOXP
I'd have my doubts about quality, especially around the edges of the parent pictures.

Thanks Ahruman - I'll give Planettool a go with these (and more as needed).

Hi,
Just read this. I could do it but in Deep Horizons there are alread some pretty good moons so I point my finger to that OXP.

Exactly. For the real galaxy, try Frontier First Encounters D3D. It might just change your lifeCommander McLane wrote:Why would you?
