How do I find the version information?

Post by Solar Patriot »

As ignorant as this sounds, I don't remember what version of Oolite I installed.
I have installed and un-installed it so many times that I don't remember. :?
Whatever version I am using, it seems to be functioning ok. I am running it on a Linux Mint 10 system.
I do have some other questions but I will address them at a later time when I have gathered the necessary information and have articulated my questions.
Thank you in advance for your help.

P.S. This is an awesome forum. I have continually visited it for almost a year before joining. You guys (moderators) give new meaning to being helpful with no agenda.

Hi Solar Patriot, and welcome to the friendliest board this side of Riedquat.
The version number is on the splash screen that displays when Oolite is starting, up at the top.

Hi and welcome.

Version information is displayed on the game window's title bar when you run it in windowed mode. It should read something like "Oolite v1.xx DD MMM YYYY". If you do not see this and it says something like "SDL_app", then you are most likely on version 1.65.

On a Mac there is Oolite/About Oolite in the menu bar. Not for other OSs?

You can also look at the first few lines of Latest.log - it contains detailed version info and some compile-time options.

What's the use of having an "About" menu option,
when it takes just 4 minutes to get this info from the forum?!?

Oh, it's not only "About"! It has "Check for Updates...", "Oolite Screen Shots", "Expansion Packs", and "Show Previous Log" as well. And more of the usual Mac menu stuff, like "Hide", "Hide others", and "Quit".

Have I mentioned that there are other nice menus as well? Like "Edit", "Window", "Help", and even "Debug", provided you got Debug.oxp. 8)

However, just as I mention these I notice that they're not localized yet. (And it strikes me as a little odd to have a shortcut to previous.log, but not to latest.log (that shortcut is in the Debug-menu, but that isn't going to be part of a stable release).)

It seems to me that “normal” users are far more likely to be trying to find out “what went wrong last time” than they are to want to monitor the live log. That said, try holding down Option.

You have a point here. :D (And I didn't know about Option-klicking.)
