Coming Clean!
I have noticed that if you are Fugitive and change your ship you then become clean. Is that meant to happen in 1.75?
Find out about the early influences of Fatleaf here. Also his OXP's!

Yes, this is deliberate. As per the original Elite manual, "the unique IR signature of a ship's hull is used to file police records".

Re: Coming Clean!
You also become clean whenever you use an escape pod.
However, if you install Anarchies.oxp, this won't work anymore. Although I'm not sure about buying a new ship. To be honest, I've never thought about that.

Having never changed ships... is this new to 1.75?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

No, it was already old in 1.65.El Viejo wrote:Having never changed ships... is this new to 1.75?

Re: Coming Clean!
Thanks a_c... I'm not sure I agree with that idea, but it offers a new approach for the habitual fugitive.

It's the escape pod angle that interests me.

Install Anarchies.oxp and forget about the escape pod thing.El Viejo wrote:It's the escape pod angle that interests me.
PS: I just tested it: even with Anarchies installed you lose your bounty if you buy a new ship. The OXP doesn't release you from the ramifications of anything you do inside a station. This obviously includes becoming clean from buying a new ship.

Re: Coming Clean!
seems to be a bit of a flaw in that if you're a Fug you shouldn't be able to dock in order to buy a new ship!

Except maybe in an anarchy and/or feudal systems. (Omitting the system you became fugitive in, if it was of one of these categories.)Killer Wolf wrote:seems to be a bit of a flaw in that if you're a Fug you shouldn't be able to dock in order to buy a new ship!

I think you'll findthat it was in the original Elite and all of it's subsequent reworkings.El Viejo wrote:Having never changed ships... is this new to 1.75?

Re: Coming Clean!
In an anarchy and/or feudal systems, you probably won't be getting a great ship because the tech level will likely be low.

Re: Coming Clean!
I've been thinking about this, and I definitely think it's wrong. Legal status should stay with the player, not the ship. In Elite, you couldn't change ship, so the manual's explanation makes sense... but not in Oolite. It's just too easy... hit eject, or fight your way into a station and buy a new ship, and you're 'clean'. On a related note, shouldn't some of the ships available in the 'yards confer an instant fugitive or offender status if bought, as some miscreant has previously sold his ship in order to become 'clean'?

Re: Coming Clean!
EV is right. The problem is this old chestnut that 'You are the Ship and the Ship is You'. I presume that separating the two is extremely difficult in terms of coding or the game engine.
