Ooh... tasty!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Fab trailer Drew. Is there already an Oolite Channel on Youtube? If not we could create one so that all Oolite Related material is in one place.
I like the cinematic effects. Did you use any special software for screen capture?
EDITED to add.
I also like the explosion sound. Although I know that sound in space is not realistic I would like to have the option in Oolite to have the Q-bombs go off with a loud bang.

He he...
I don't know how to go about creating a channel on youtube, but sounds like a good idea.
I'm a tease... I know. Fun though!
Software was
Cam Studio (Open source, using their lossless codec)
AVS4YOU Video editor (came free with my PC, but cheapish and very easy to use - all effects, titling and mixing applied using this.)
Then uploaded to youtube and crunched by them.
Hardest part was getting the damn Thargoids to behave on-screen, I had to record about 20 minutes worth of witch-space misjumps to get the panning and head-on shots. The new Vampire Mk5s were as bad, plus they were so damn fast I couldn't keep up with them!
Would dearly love a more versatile exterior camera for Oolite (like dare I say it, FE2 and FFE) so we could do proper work, but I guess that's a long way down the list on some future MNSR...
Cheers,
Drew.

I considered setting up an official channel last night, got as far as noticing the name Oolite was taken, and decided I have better things to do in my ooliting time. :-)

Yeah had a quick look into this one (as it has been brought up many times). It would probably take me about a years worth of head in book time. It comes down to (at the most simple level) of mathematically working out a ship focus point at all times, from there you have to alter views on the fly by hijacking a key or two in that mode.El Viejo wrote:Drool!drew wrote:Would dearly love a more versatile exterior camera for Oolite
To be honest I fear it is a little bit beyond oxp's (even cleverly programmed ones with a heafty back end) to sort this out. Unless you can call a veritable in the shiplist instead of an xyz co-ordinate and some Quaternions for ship views. That would of course depend on how many times oolite looks up the ship data.
There are probably other ways of doing it. (it's a program of course there are). It's one of those look at it; swear, then walk off and do something a lot easier and only slightly less gratifying.
It might be fun to some of the background maths though, An equation that takes 3 variables and outs the 3 Quaternions required to point that directly at the 0,0,0 point, haven't done and formula work or proper ratios for years. Then just wait for some clever monkey to weaponize it.

Re: Oolite 'Trailer'...
Hey, it's Sunday I'm in stream of conciseness mode. Basically should be possible but very very difficult.
Ok taking z as my triangle base and y as my vertical (with the right angle connecting the 2); if i need to point the camera at 0,0,0 I'll need a bit of trigonometry. Now can I use inverse tan to work out the downward angle of the camera (then use that to calculate the Quaternions) using the opposite (z) length and the adjacent (y) or am I going to have to dick around with the hypotenuse?
I wish I'd paid more attention in maths.

Clym= FAIL year 10 mathematics. Yay!
