We've probably discussed this before, but I found these on play.com...
Fiction
Fantasy
I find it amusing that they're STILL there! Ah well, at least there's hope...

Re: Elite IV
I've not clicked on the links (yet), but I've just got to say that opening a thread labeled "Elite IV" to find the words "Fiction" and "Fantasy" highlighted just made my day!

Sad thing is, when (if) Elite IV ever comes out, Oolite will be better.

Re: Elite IV
Already is I think. Everything that made Elite great was in the heads of the fans. Now a lot of that is in Oolite.uua90 wrote:Sad thing is, when (if) Elite IV ever comes out, Oolite will be better.

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I dreamed a dream of times gone by.......
Re: Elite IV
I don't think it's sad and I don't think we'll ever see an EliteIV now. The great thing about Classic Elite was how you got immersed in it, you are piloting a ship, you are kacking your pants when your energy levels are rock bottom, you are plotting and planning strategies, you are mercenary as a trader etc etc. What was lacking was the visuals, audio, more variety and choice of missions, and other ships fighting amongst themselves etc etc. We've got all of that now and more to come in Oolite.uua90 wrote:Sad thing is, when (if) Elite IV ever comes out, Oolite will be better.
I've had a couple of years sabatical and the improvements in Oolite in that time is exceptional, you have probably only seen incremental improvements I've seen a big change. Now I've returned I also see many of the "old" faces still developing their butts off and some very welcome "new" additions firing on all cylinders so good on you! brilliant work.
From my point of view the only thing that could top what you are achieving would be me at my age getting a paternity suit!

Re: Elite IV
Actually, I think we will see Elite IV, might be a while though. However, it will probably be different from what I expect. They have to cater for a whole new generation of players, with very different expectations from what we, or at least I, have. There have been some hints that we may be able to leave the ship and walk around (will use tech from Outsider) etc. (Not sure that will be a good thing). What worries my though, is weather they manage to sustain that feeling of freedom and openness over time. That will be hard considering the expectation of continuous action and variety in today's younger players. Anyway, no matter what, Oolite will be there if all else fails.
