A selection of “default” formations is possible, but the general idea is for OXPs to be able to do it.

That would be really good... if possible.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Ideally, for a six ship escort, you’d want one on point, one trailing on the mother’s ‘six’, and the other four arranged in a circle, as in Eric’s pic.
I have been playing with two oxp's since Ahruman added the feature yesterday.
  • The ixian_cruiser had 10 escorts. I always had problems with this because the wing used to fill the whole scanner. Reason was that the spacing is also determined by the size of the mother. I now made an escort formation as spiral around the mother (based on Ahrumans circular example). That gives a much more realistic close group.
  • The super dredger was so big that the default spacing made that only 2 from the 6 escorts fitted on the scanner. With a custom formation you can now let 3 escorts fly on each side, above each other, so you also get a close group.
Only one thing from your suggestion will not work: "one on point". Because of the avoiding of obstacles, the mother does not like anything in front of it. :)

Thanks PAG... when I get my head round the external view co-ords, I'm hoping for some even better shots.
