At least you had beans to eat Smivs... all we had was the soupstone!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

You guys had ships? Tch. When I started out this was all space and all we had was a remlok and a pair of antigrav boots to get around in.

And yes, it was always uphill and against the wind!

Cheers,

Drew.

I remember before we had lasers-- had to pick some unlucky soul to stick his arm out the airlock and shine a flashlight on the enemy ship until it exploded. And that's what we did for FUN!

Flashlights?! Luxury!!
We had to catch fireflies, stick them in a long tube and point it out of the airlock. Then they would die almost immediately - you know, vacuum and all that - so we had to go back and catch more. And we still were grateful.

Fireflies? Child's play! At least you had your missiles. Back in MY day, instead of launching missiles, we threw marbles. One would need to hold his breath, lean out of the airlock into the 100 km/hour winds (yes, back in those days there was WIND in SPACE), and throw a marble towards the enemy ship. If you couldn't score a direct hit at a distance of 25 kilometers, you weren't a man.

And don't even get me started on what we did before ECM... I can still hear the screams of the lobstoids were threw at those marbles...

Marbles? We used to stick a trumble up Fartyarseblast's [CENSORED] and aim him at the other ship. Worked a treat :D

Bah! In MY time, we had to start in a Cobra Mk 3, and if you wanted something better you had to trade! Whilst trading, you where expected to know all the little tips and tricks, and if you didn't? Well, sirree, you better strap in for a long, and ardurous ride. Some, lesser souls tried to take the easy way out, tried to F12 and read their emails whilst flying. What happened to them you may ask? Well, I hear there is a Darwin Award's thread for such people. Now, before this, we where stuck with wireframe models, and planets with lines going through the middle, and if you wanted to earn ELITE, you did it from behind a pulse laser. Before that you had me' ol pa, who earned Elite with a mining laser and a cargo scoop on his Adder. And then, he herded two of every animal in the Ooniverse onto a ship, and proceeded to beat the living bejeesus out of them, and thats why, whenever you see a group of animals in one place, its called a zoo!

Unless its a farm!

(P.s. Time acceleration controls have changed the game for me! Very cool. Slowing down time during a furball is quite fun! Not to mention that icky habit of getting mass-locked by planets is quickly side-stepped with this. Ok, less typing and more trade runs, that Military laser isn't going to buy itself!)

I normally feel guilty about being the first who starts the derailing of a thread, but not this one, genius guys - love it...

Seriously, I still remember the relief when I managed to upgrade my weapon from a slingshot shooting pebbles to focusing the sun through a magnifying glass. I saved up for ages to buy that magnifying glass. Still have it somewhere, ahh! there it is, next to my stamp collection......

Not even the 'silly' intervention could stop it.
