Yeah, that rear mil laser can be troublesome, as it is with the Griff Constrictor... get in a stern chase with one at your peril.Smivs wrote:Despite hitting me with a long final blast of rear Mil Laser, he finally succumbed.

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
I started a new commander today. Just when I was readjusting to the lack of witch space fuel injectors and a docking computer, I saw a little scuffle. I was fairly close to the Lave station and it looked like the pirates were outnumbered, so I figured I would have a few shots and be on my way. I ended up destroying an Asp and a Cobra Courier with a pathetic little pulse laser, dodging two missiles without ECM the whole time... Lord Giles was smiling upon me this day.

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
Ok, so I finally make it to Tianve. I see the pulsar, dock at the observation station, buy my souvenir, etc. I leave the station, and I'm getting the planetary landing message...
Land on a pulsar???? On the rapidly spinning surface of a sort of neutron star??? Umm.. OK!
Well, actually I puttered around it for a bit first, making sure the planetary landing message came up each time, and then finally landed. It showed it as some sort of a military station.
It was kind of interesting coming down on something spinning that fast, and I kept expecting "press space commander". But nope, landed just fine. Def a hoopy capper to an evening's play.

Sleep? Who needs sleep? Got game. No need sleep.
Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
It's on my to-do list to exclude the pulsar from PF, but I need to ponder it a little to maybe make a more convenient way for other OXP-writers to block their planets/moons from PF. Then it'll be a chat with Drew probably...

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
Life has just got a lot tougher along the spacelanes! Sometimes you've got to know when to hit the hyperspace key, and duck and dive until the count hits '1'... which I did. Then you can breathe a sigh of relief... and hope that the next system is empty.

Commander El Viejo, what ship is it you fly, if you don't mind me asking?

An iron-assed Cowell & MgRath Cobra Mk III… the best all-round combat starship in the Eight. As for the energy bomb, I always carry one, but never use it, on principle.
Injectors, hyperspace, or the escape pod… these are the alternatives 'in extremis', as it was in that pic… or a fight to the death!

Is the forward mounted laser really a pulse laser?El Viejo wrote:An iron-assed Cowell & MgRath Cobra Mk III… the best all-round combat starship in the Eight.

I'd love to say yes... but no, it's the crosshairs that I prefer... simple, and to the point. All four gun-mounts are mil lasers, firing in green, as that suits my eyes better.Switeck wrote:Is the forward mounted laser really a pulse laser?

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
Ahh… look at the brave little Adder, trying to take on an Asp Mk II. I watched them dogfight for quite a while… the Adder pilot was an ace, and took the fight to the pirate. When the Asp fired two missiles, the Adder started evading like crazy… it obviously had no ECM, so being a good upright citizen, I used mine. Back comes the Adder then, for another go at the Asp… but it began to take some hits and started throwing sparks… so I intervened and splashed the Asp.
Just another day along the spacelanes of the eighth octant… waiting for armageddon.

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
Nice pic. I've been meaning to take a picture of some combat. Unfortunately, even though Ive played before, the 'ol brainpan shuts down.
One of these days I'll stop OMGWTFBBQ! long enough to take some shots.
I am pretty impressed with that Adder however! I came across a Mk. I vs. a Mk I and realized I didn't have my target enhancer upgrade. Needless to say, I had to get up REAL close and check the paint before firing.
I'm actually interested how the Adder took the fight to the Asp, did it have Injectors or something? Every time I lay eyes on an ASP it flees after a few hits, and then charges in, beam laser ablaze.

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
Used my first Q-bomb today in a combat situation. Note to self: start witch space countdown before you deploy the Q-bomb. That was way too close, even with injectors.
I made it though.

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...
I just destroyed my first Black Monk Gunship-- and lived to tell about it!
I was just sitting at the nav beacon, waiting for a wormhole to snatch a free ride. I hear the electronic ululation of an ECM and see an Anaconda taking fire-- what fiend would attack such a mighty ship within the station's aegis??? I put my superhero costume on and rush to engage the offender. Just then, I hear the Anaconda whimper about paying the Black Monks back. He was a vile defaulter being assailed by a Black Monks Gunship. I ease off the injectors and wait at a distance to snatch his loot when he goes down. In a few moments, though, he stops taking fire... I turn to find the Gunship. It's being nailed on all sides by GalCop Vipers, legal status is Fugitive. Shrugging, I turn my guns on its hide and open fire. It seems that it was on its last leg, because it instantly exploded, and I got all the credit for the Vipers' hard work. All the bounty, too.
To top it all off, I was involved in quite the furball in the next system over and took down two ships, scooping both criminals for bounties. (Among them was a pilot of an Executive Spaceways Long Range Escort-- I'm afraid he isn't doing much for the company's reputation.)
Maybe I should go into the bounty hunting business for a while. Those bounties did land me a Shield Booster..
