Yes, it's a crazy idea, but someone is actually thinking of trying to raise the cash to do this. The article is worth a look just for the stunning 'Artists Impression' of the Monolith.

Fools… don’t they know that the monolith is already there on the moon… we just haven’t dug it up yet!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
