nasty and deadly

Post by pagroove »

Which ships do you consider nasty and deadly?

I nominate the Swift and the Barracuda.

These are little ships but they do have a lot of firepower for their size. Pirate groups with any of these ships in them are a chance for a trip home in the escape capsule even if your ship is well equipped.

Any other contenders?

The Griff Krait variant with the twin mil lasers that don’t seem to overheat… they can be nasty in a group.

Are you feeling recovered, PA?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Agreed but once you are on their 12 you can hit them easily.
I heard a Rattle Cutter can be really nasty (haven't installed that ship yet)
Also the Cat (Cougar) was mentioned by some people. But in my Oldships 2010 I never have met them at all as an npc.

Yes Finally. This was a flu without fever. But with a very nasty cough. Thank you

I don’t know about those other ships… the Griff Krait is the only non-core ship in my game.

I had full-blown flu, but it’s the chest infection that’s doing me in… two weeks now.

I nominate the Fer de Lance, not because it is in any way a decent combat ship, but because the AI is so stupid that I have been repeatedly killed by FdLs slamming into me on injectors. EXTREMELY annoying.

All ships from military.oxp are basically the definition of "nasty".

When I said 'swift' I was actually meaning the sunracer. I knew it was a ship with the letter 's'. ;) A pirate sunracer is a though enemy. Also agree on the FDL and its injector use.

The Basilisk...narrow profile and lots of firepower till you shoot it off.

I find the FDL, Iggy and Imperial Courier pirate squadron combo to be one that I dread running into...

Anything with kamikaze AI is rather aggravating to deal with. Asps seem to be the worst. I've probably died more times to ramming than anything else. Grr....

Ships I tend to avoid are the Vampires Dominatrix and Diamondback (Vamps mark 3 and 4). Tough ships anyway, but it's the multiple lasers which get me! I'll take them on one on one without any qualms, unless I'm already damaged, but see them amongst a group and I'm out of there as fast as my injectors can carry me!

I find the Eagles rather annoying. They're not particularly deadly, more of a pest. 'Tis their use of injectors that does it - they have a habit of zooming off just as I'm about to finish them. And then coming back for another go. Grr arg!

I assume these are the same thoughts that the eagle pilot has about player ships. :P

The barracuda was designed to be a tricky little customer, both from its stats and its paint job. It's what an escort fighter really should be, quite specialised but cutting edge in that speciality.

And of course if you want to really find the tough ones, you want Stealth OXP. Same ships, but scanner-invisible...

Those darned Corsairs!!! Not only do they have nasty twin lasers, but get near them and the plasma turrets open up on you.
And Simon Bridge's pesky little Wetas - the unkillable little buggers! You hit and you hit 'em and bits keep coming off (and it's not easy since they're so little and zippy) and still they won't flippin' die! Well, they do eventually if you keep chasing 'em and blasting away like an eejit. Harder to kill than a dirty great Kirin. Funny, though, when I was flying one myself it didn't seem so darned tough!!!
