Congratulations on winning the vote! :D

Love to know how we're going to cope with all those times zones though

Glasnost comrades! (Not really relevant but a good excuse to say it)

This is good for Russia, I would expect their economy could do with the boost. Hopefully, they can put all those old, disused nuclear power plants to good use now.

South Africa did a fine job for 2010, I have to say I had my doubts. However, apart from the annoying Vuvuzelas*, it was a great tournament that passed without incident.

*The constant sound of an angry mob of bees ready to swarm was scary and disconcerting... and I know bees!

Apart from the damn vuvuzelas, the problems in South Africa 2010 were the small crowds at many matches … FIFA got their ticket pricing all wrong, and some very poor pitches (I won’t mention the match balls). Russia may have the same problems, I fear… but good luck to them, and to Qatar in 2022.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Hm. I thought South Africa 2010 was (another) economic failure, like these big events usually are?

I was in SA in the run up to the cup - lots of revamping and economic input to some of the very deprived areas of Cape Town where I was based (they were even trying to tidy up the Townships (by building these little pre-fab houses))
