So, I’m sitting at this planet (Cezaa, gal 2, Anarchy, TL 6, Mainly Industrial) with 13g of gemstones in my hold. I try to sell them, and instead I find myself with 140g of gemstones. Press return again, and it sells 127g, leaving me with 13g. Right arrow buys, left arrow won’t let me sell to less than 13g. And they’re offering 20.4 Cr, too…

Yup, the small market limits quantities to 127 units of any commodity.

It's a deliberately inherited behaviour from the 8 bit Elites and it forces players to avoid stockpiling precious commodities.

Sell them somewhere else, or follow a trader to a nearby system and back.

I don't follow.
Where's the logic in that?

The market at a station represents a 'gray' market - trading in surplus commodities - a small fraction of the good that are being hauled by larger carriers.

There's a limit to what this market can bear, which is represented by the 127 unit limit.

Or: "I'm sorry I can't handle that quantity, sir. Perhaps you'd care to try Gemstones Inc? They have a branch on Ensoreus."

Actually I agree - it is a bit pants. But I can't think of a better way of doing things ATM. A potential solution would have to have the same overall effect as the current situation - though. Just more varied and reasonable.

But you can sell some gems, launch, redock and sell some more gems?
Or is the state of the market determined upon system generation.
Hmm, I think I just answered my own question.

It could be informative to look at how Frontier managed commodity prices, those fluctuated from
-random timebased fluctuation
-player selling stuff/ other ships selling stuff.
This is deviating too much from Elite, I realise. :P
