As per the web page, there's two breeds : a standard, light grey-ish trader-oriented craft, and a darker, "Black" variant for combateers.

Looking nice. :D

Perhaps you could have deviated more from the general Cobby III shape? I mean, the Cobby III looks different from the Cobby I, so probably the Cobby IV have evolved its shape further? (Just an idea.)

Looking awesome KW, lovely detailing on the texture! love the colour scheme, makes the ship look really tough, the massive chunky gun on the front helps too!

thanks guys :-)

@ Cmdr McL : I thought the concave dorsal section was enough, to be honest. i had another sketch, a slightly elongated version but it looked a little too much like a stretched Werewolf.

@Griff : ta :-) the panelling actually looks really like a snake head too, w/ those silvery panels on either side of the cockpit ~ that happened just by happy accident! The Black is actually supposed to be much darker, i dunno if my screenshots really emphasize that.

Do you think that this will be installed into 1.75 as standard?

As standard what? A Cobra IV is not part of Elite's/Oolite's internal ship set. So the answer is no.

But if you like the ship, you are free to download and install the OXP.

I just had a thought with the MKIII being so iconic the IV might (a big might) be along the same lines.

But yes I do like the ship and yes I have installed it. All I need now is some time to play with it. :D

Very good KW. A worthy successor. I will take a test drive as soon as the temperatures are a bit higher ( freezing cold here in The Netherlands and therefore very cold in my computer room where there is no heating). So I now spend my time in my living room behind a PS3 with Gran Turismo5. Don't worry though Oolite always wins from mainstream games in the end. Yes even over GT5 because I'm an old school gamer. ;)

YAY! Cobra Mk IV! Maybe I'll take a break from Frontier, which I'm enjoying now, and get back to Oolite.

Nice work, I some how missed this entire thread.

I think you've done yourself justice KW. Enough to avoid a severe kicking, and being sold into slavery on a hedonistic, love-servant asteroid. :D

I do agree a touch with Comm. McLane's comments that at first glance it does look extremely similar to the Cobra MkIII. On the other hand you couldn't very well make it look radically different. It's a tough balancing act of VW Beetle proportions.

Like the gun (laser) on the front. Nice touch.

Overall, worth an A minus I think. ;)

My Commander Jerk traded in his Sunracer Scout for one of these in the Black variety and it certainly is a nifty little ship! Handles very well and looks superb. Ta very much!!
The only thing I didn't take to was the HUD (which I've gotten rid of) which I just found too intrusive. It could have done with being a lot more transparent and maybe with thinner lines. Small matter though, easy to switch back to the default.

cheers for the ongoing feedback :-)

Tony, there's an "alpha" setting in the HUD plists that determines transparency, you could try playing w/ that. I wondered about painting the image w/ the opacity set in PShop, but once you do that it's set and some people might not like it, so it's easier (i thought) to just paint it up and people can set the alpha values to suit themselves.
As per another thread, i wanted another HUD variant for when you hit the F5 etc keys, but apparently there's still some issues w/ that operation.
