While I have no intention of using one of these textures for myself, I can honestly say that this is one of the clearest examples of how to create a texture that I've come across!

I've made myself a ship model in Wings that I'm almost happy with, but have not yet had the courage to attempt to make any kind of texture for it. Now, after seeing this, I feel far more confident about how to go about doing it!

I find the readme instructions clear and explanatory, and being able to see how all the pieces that make up the texture fit together is very useful.

All-in-all, I found it a very useful tutorial, and whilst that may not necessarily be what it's designed for, I thank you anyway!

There does seem to be a bit of demand for a 'How to make a Texture' type article, so if you can bear with me I'll try to do something a bit more comprehensive and a bit more useful...this OXP idea is intended as a simple way for people to produce a custom paintjob using what amounts to a 'kit', but for one ship only.
It might take a few days to produce, but I will have a go at an article explaining how to do a complete diffuse_map (and emission_map) from scratch.

Edit:- I've made a good start on this today, and if all goes well tomorrow I may have something ready to post on the Wiki in the next day or so. It's a step-by-step Tutorial (using Gimp) on how to make a full diffuse_map and an emission_map from first principles. I suspect some of you good folks will find it very useful.
Watch this space...

Edit:- All done...see this thread. The tutorial is here on the Wiki..

Not made with this OXP, but that's really nice...definitely a 'Sea' feel to it.

That's nice as well. :) Interesting concept.

Just a thought (admins) should this be split off as a new thread, "Cobra Custom Paintjobs" perhaps.

Hi Smivs,

You asked for a screenshot, so here's a few:

And still no scratches on the paintwork.

OK... I am now entirely bemused and frustrated! Is there some good reason that I can't get this to work on a Mac?

I have GIMP 2.6.11 for Leopard, which is the OS I am running at this moment, and the various folders with .png files that constitute this oxp.

BUT... I loaded the original 'Cobra3.png' without problem. But when I try to drag and drop any of the layers on to the original, they just fly back to the folder, and do not copy across. Tried restarting and reloading several times, but it still doesn't want to know - any suggestions as to what amazingly stupid thing I am missing? I've not used GIMP before, so it's bound to be something really simples!!!
Very funny, Scotty, now beam down my clothes...
