joystick drift

Post by byronarn »

I use Ollite 1.74.2 on Windows 7. Today, I bought a Gigaware PC 10 button gamepad. However, there's a problem. When I use it with Oolite, the screen will drift to the right. I will be pressing no buttons or axis, and it will drift to the right.

What gives? And more importantly, how can I fix it?

Go into the Windows Control panel.
Choose "Devices and Printers".
Right click the icon bearing the name of your joystick and select "Game Controller Settings".
Click the 'Properties' button.
Select the 'Settings' tab.
Click the 'Calibrate' button.
Follow the on-screen directions.

There likely is a faster way to get to the functionality, but that is how I just meandered into it myself while looking to answer your question.

There are two things I would like to do with my joystick. Can anyone tell me if it is possible? First, I would like to find a way to \navigate the menus while docked using my gamepad. Second, I would like to assign one of my buttons to activate the witchspace drive. Does anyone know if these things are possible? It would be great to be able to use my gamepad for almost everything that I do in Oolite.

In windows you should be able to use something like joytokey to map any key to any joystick/gamepad button:

Haven't tried it though, since I don't have a joystick/joypad to test it with... :)
