[Solved] $HOME/.Oolite/AddOns : Huh? What? Where?

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and install Oolite from the Ubuntu reposiotory. The wiki say the Addons directory is located at $HOME/.Oolite/AddOns

Only it isnt, theres no such directory as $HOME/.Oolite let alone $HOME/.Oolite/AddOns

So I created it, and put an addon in it, but nothing happens.

So where is the Addons directory?

Firstly, if you installed using the official Ubuntu repository, you'll have installed v1.65 of Oolite, which is horribly outdated. You really should look at installing the current version, which is 1.74.2. It's really moved on incredibly since then.

Secondly, the $HOME/.Oolite directory won't exist until after you run Oolite at least once.

Make sure that you spelled $HOME/.Oolite/AddOns properly - including capitalisation.

Finally, when installing an OXP, many OXPs are zipped up such that the .oxp folder is in a sub-folder in the ZIP. You have to add the folder ending in .oxp into the $HOME/.Oolite/AddOns folder.

I have run Oolite a number of times, but the directory has not been created by the game.

I've now created it myself and the capitalisation is correct.

Is there a text OXP I can install that is just obvious its working when I load the game? Or is there a way for me to see what OXP's have been loaded?

Hi Jason, and welcome.

I know zilch about Linux, so I’ll not be much help.
However, if you can find your Latest.log from the Oolite app, that will tell you which oxps are loaded.
In Windows, it’s found in: ~\Oolite\oolite.app\Logs

(And do install 1.74.2, as Micha suggested.)

Two (five) that I can think of:

The Material Test Suite gives you a bunch of spinning cubes to look at immediately after startup.
(If you wish to report the results, use this thread.)

Version 4.00 of Asteroid Storm contains an OXP called Asteroid Storm Showroom which displays all the different asteroids upon startup.

In addition, a few shipsets replace the original ones (Neolite, Smivs, Deepspace(?)), so installing one of those will give you a different spinning Cobra.

Doesn't this mean the central crosshair is either side of the division of monitors?
