OpenCL drivers in ATI Catalyst suite

Post by Cody »

The latest ATI/AMD Catalyst suite (10.11) now has an alternative version which includes OpenCL drivers… something AMD like to call the ‘Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP) Technology Edition’. I’ve been trying to read up on this, but I don’t think that I’m much the wiser… something akin to Nvidia’s Cuda, is it? Of no use to Oolite, I’m sure... but it must be good for something… any experts out there?

No experts then… never mind, it’s academic from my angle, as I’ve had to roll back to the previous ATI Catalyst suite (10.10). I’ve had several nasty system crashes in the last few days… BSODs, both black and blue, were causing me distress, and unnecessary wear and tear on an already old machine. I eventually nailed it down to this old ATI driver problem involving ‘ati2dvag’… one I’d never had before. Odd isn’t it… as soon as AMD actually put their own logo onto the Catalyst drivers, this problem pops-up… ATI users beware.
