Effectors

Post by Jon Ridgway »

Hi All,

Not sure if such a thing has already been created, but i like my "Culture" books - so was wondering if it would be possible to create an "effector" that could be used to target a ship and take over its computer, in effect making into a "hired gun" or behave as a "combat drone".

Can this be done in an oxp?

Regards,

Jon.

Fairly easily (just an AI switch to one like my Hired Guns fly under).

Would work for standard ships, although might have odd effects if used against a scanClass thargoid...

It seems to me that this would be an extremely powerful weapon against NPCs in the hands of the player, with no possibility of it being used against him at all (the player ship doesn't have an AI to be switched).

Therefore, creating a generally available item like this would extremely unbalance the game in favour of the player. It would have to be considered a cheat, like for instance Killit.oxp.

That's not to say that it could be very useful as a scripting device on one certain ship during a mission. :D

Download Dredgers and see how salvage missiles work.
They're way too cheap even for only working on derelicts, but the pay for salvaging a derelict hardly covers the risk if it's a smaller ship.
