Yup I got a lot of additions over the weekend, working on updates now (looks like paypal have taken a small bit due to the number of micro transactions (currently running about 3-4 quid or so) not bad considering we have about 80 quid in donations so far. Easily enough to get the plasma globe, origami books and a CD or two.

Of course if the not so Secret Santas (N.S.S.S?) would prefer to get one of the bigger nastier Maths books instead then cool. We'll work that out when we get the grand total. :)

Still no word from the Mr B. Still it's early days. We may go looking for alternative e-mail addresses closer to December.

This has been an excellent idea! I've used PayPal for ages so it's in my IRL name peter.balcon... ...not that I introduce myself as peter.balcon, but... ...you get the idea...
Very funny, Scotty, now beam down my clothes...

If this opportunity will stay open another week or so, I would like to contribute. Not sure how much 5 quid is in USD, but I'll figure it out when the time comes. :P

Yup we're open till the beginning of December. (we'll probably have a better idea of what people want to give him by then so we can sort the delivery nice and quick.

We will be taking donations for a month or so (as I know some people who might want to contribute who are not day to day forum regulars).

So yes, you have plenty of time.

BTW: should I/someone else make this a (temporary) stickie?

That way it stays in the picture for non-regular visitors...

While the post remains popular it doesn't need to be stickied, I may flex my admin powers if I need to, should it suddenly start to fall down the page (or Rxke could do so equally as easily - whatcha think Rxke?)

That’s the first, and last, time I use paypal… charged me an extra £1 just for using my debit card.
Seems they take a fee from both ends… I'm outraged!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

They are making money hand over fist. They seem to want to direct people towards having paypal accounts that way they get everyones money and pay themselves 5-7% for leaping things round the one database. When your talking debit cards then the banks want to get in on the act too.

It might have been easier to stick a note in an envelope and I'd have popped along to the bureau de change. (or money gram or something like that). The internet needs a nice secure method of taking micro-payments.

To send you cash, do I stick the cash in the floppy drive or in the CD drive?
Do I need currency conversion software on my end?

:D

Simply put in on the scanner.

Not necessarily, 'cause the conversion also can take place at the receiver's end, or on both (difference between OUR, BEN, and SHARE). The only thing needed is a set-top-box for either the scanner or printer. In the end, for a scanned €10 bill, the receiver will be able to print a correct £8.66 bill on their colour printer.
