Hmm, "The Core".

I don't know whether the entire crew were thinking "O GOD, what a ridiculously stupid movie this is!" all the time. But I know that I am thinking "O GOD, what a ridiculously stupid movie that is!" whenever I happen to stumble across it on one of the usual movie channels... :?

It was written by a geophysicist. There’s a point at which one of the characters says, in character, that everything from this point onwards is patent nonsense. Several of the characters laugh at the complete ridiculousness of what they’re doing.

Each of these could be taken as a hint, if you were so inclined. :-)

Re: Tianve OXP v1.3 now available

I have enjoyed visiting the Tianve Pulsat in the past, and today the sight of a Torus station against the backdrop of an expanding nebula was impressive 8)

Five liners were parked, seats were advertised at a reasonable price, and were available, according to several messages, but I couldn't see anywhere to pay for one.

At the Pulsar station I could pay for the souvenir, but can't see it anywhere.

Yep. Works. Got one!
I don't seem able to get one.
I was in a Falcon-S with these OXP's loaded:

caduceuslrez.oxp
Famous_Planets_v2.0.oxp
FTZ v0.13.oxp
Fuel Tank v2.1.oxp
hOopyCasino1.0.1.oxp
Kestrel&Falcon.oxp
marett_vol1_b.oxp
Pallas.oxp
PlanetFall 1.23.oxp
Rock_Hermit_Locator1.1.oxp
System_Redux.oxp
Tianve1.3.oxp
tori.oxp

I thought the ship's dashboard might be the problem, so bought a Fer de Lance, but still couldn't get the souvenir - or at least it didn't appear in the expected place.
So I went off and bought my Vanilla Ride the BoaClassCruiser, and ran Oolite with just these OXP's:

Famous_Planets_v2.0.oxp
Tianve1.3.oxp
tori.oxp

I could buy the souvenir in this configuration, but still can't see it anywhere!

Tourist rentals were also advertised, and I was able to load Commander Cheapskate's "classic Cobra MkI" OK.

Your souvenir is on your ship's manifest screen (F5-F5).

Apologies if it is perhaps less impressive than what you hoped for.

And you can't actually buy a seat in a liner, because the engine doesn't allow you to enter a ship other than your own. Unfortunate, but for now we can't do anything about it.

My favourite bit of 'wrongness' is where the 'microwave' beam slices through the golden gate bridge and the towers fall in the wrong direction. The CGI dudes didn't realise the dynamics of a 'suspension' bridge.

I have to admit that I've never seen it in its entirety, for instance I haven't seen the Golden Gate scene.

It is totally enough for me to think about the whole 'microwave' beam for only second. How it literally annihilates matter. I mean, it doesn't actually 'slice' through anything, it pokes a perfect round hole into everything. And there is no debris left, not even gases or plasma, just plain nothing. A hole which conveniently houses the 'ship'. In RealLife™ the real task with boring holes is getting the excavated material out of the hole. In "The Core" it conveniently disappears. :?

And this is apart from all the other ridiculous stuff in this movie.

Well, you wouldn't be supposed to buy a liner anyway. Just a ticket for a place in one of the liners.

I've currently got the PlanetFall oxp installed, and this actually allows me to land on the Pulsar itself!

'Tis labelled as "Tianve: Moon of Tianve - Colony Dome"

I don't have the pulsar OXP installed, so didn't think to block that one.

Makes a mental note to self - update PF to work with TP...

Hmmm..

I guess the oolite graphics engine also isn't up to rendering what happens to a ship which lands on a pulsar. 8)

Cheers,

Drew.

I think the ship would just be very flat. Wouldn't that be doable by a shader?

Oh, and it wouldn't be able to start anymore.

Drew, the station in the oxp has a bug, similar to this one from diso.oxp. Your oxp and diso.oxp use the same basic data. For diso.oxp its fixed on the latest version.

No, they don't since the latest Tianve.oxp (v1.3). That's when I discovered the problem and put a dock subentity in the station's shipdata. That should have fixed it.
