oolite for mac, can't load a comander. help!
Hello, new to this and i've been building a character but when i try to load it i only get a list of applications and not my previously saved commanders.
this happened because instead of choosing one of my commanders i pressed command and return as prompted by some orange text.
once i pressed the command and return i get this list of files from my computer but not any of the previously saved commanders and i can't seem to go back to see and choose my commanders.
i don't want to lose my man, can anyone help?

Hi orangetree and welcome to ‘the friendliest forum this side of Riedquat’™.
If you’re on Windows, you can check here to see your savegames ~\Oolite\oolite.app\oolite-saves (I’m not sure about other OS’s)… if it’s there, then at least you can make a copy. Otherwise, I can’t offer much help, but someone will be along at some stage who can.

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I know nothing about Macs either.
Just on the off chance though, have a look in this thread and see if you find any hints.

On Linux, you can navigate your file system by using the arrow keys to move up and down the folder list, and holding control and pressing return to select the folder. The parent folder is the one right at the top of the list.
I don't know what it's like on a mac, but I would assume that you've done something similar to this. If you know where the save game ought to be kept, then you might be able to find your way back.
Sorry I can't be much more help...

ok, i've had a fiddle and i've tried to paste a screen shot here but no joy.
this is what i get
commander name rating
(..) Oolite.app
>> Library
>>MacOS
>> Resources
Hold Ctrl and press return to open parent folder: Oolite.app
if i go down any of these roads they all lead back here and there's no sign of my commander or my new ship.

As I implied, I’m a Windows man… Macs are a mystery to me. We do have some Mac wizards on the forum, but they’re mostly 9 to 5 guys, unlike us mad, nocturnal users (only joking, Mac wizards). There will probably be one along in the morning… sorry.

Hang on, I just thought of something: If I recall correctly, you can load your save from outside Oolite when you're on a Mac.
Try this: Exit Oolite, and manually locate your save file. I'm fairly certain it's named the same on Macs as on Windows, ie Commandername.oolite-save.
Double click (or whatever you Mac-users do to open an application) on the save game you want to open, and Oolite should launch with the commander loaded.

Yes, that will be the easiest solution. Oolite always appends "oolite-save" at the end of a name. So when you do a search for that in the finder, you'll find all save files on your disk. Select one and double-click on it. It will launch Oolite with the just selected commander.CheeseRedux wrote:Hang on, I just thought of something: If I recall correctly, you can load your save from outside Oolite when you're on a Mac.

And when you have difficulties finding the file when "in-game" press Cmd-f to go to windowed mode. In that mode you get macs own file dialogue. I prefer that dialogue, so even when I play in full-screen I often switch temporarily to windowed mode to load my commanders.
